2:1 アルタクセルクセス王の第二十年、ニサンの月のことであった。王はぶどう酒を前にし、わたしがぶどう酒を取って、王に差し上げていた。わたしは王の前で暗い表情をすることはなかったが、 2:2 王はわたしに尋ねた。「暗い表情をしているが、どうかしたのか。病気ではあるまい。何か心に悩みがあるにちがいない。」わたしは非常に恐縮して、 2:3 王に答えた。「王がとこしえに生き長らえられますように。わたしがどうして暗い表情をせずにおれましょう。先祖の墓のある町が荒廃し、城門は火で焼かれたままなのです。」 2:4 すると王は、「何を望んでいるのか」と言った。わたしは天にいます神に祈って、 2:5 王に答えた。「もしも僕がお心に適い、王にお差し支えがなければ、わたしをユダに、先祖の墓のある町にお遣わしください。町を再建したいのでございます。」 2:6 王は傍らに座っている王妃と共に、「旅にはどれほどの時を要するのか。いつ帰れるのか」と尋ねた。わたしの派遣について王が好意的であったので、どれほどの期間が必要なのかを説明し、 2:7 更に、わたしは王に言った。「もしもお心に適いますなら、わたしがユダに行き着くまで、わたしを通過させるようにと、ユーフラテス西方の長官たちにあてた書状をいただきとうございます。 2:8 また、神殿のある都の城門に梁を置くために、町を取り巻く城壁のためとわたしが入る家のために木材をわたしに与えるように、と王の森林管理者アサフにあてた書状もいただきとうございます。」神の御手がわたしを守ってくださったので、王はわたしの願いをかなえてくれた。 2:9 こうして、わたしはユーフラテス西方の長官のもとに到着する度に、王の書状を差し出すことができた。王はまた将校と騎兵をわたしと共に派遣してくれた。 2:10 ホロニ人サンバラトとアンモン人の僕トビヤは、イスラエルの人々のためになることをしようとする人が遣わされて来たと聞いて、非常に機嫌を損ねた。 2:11 わたしはエルサレムに着き、三日間過ごしてから、 2:12 夜、わずか数名の者と共に起きて出かけた。だが、エルサレムで何をすべきかについて、神がわたしの心に示されたことは、だれにも知らせなかった。わたしの乗ったもののほか、一頭の動物も引いて行かなかった。 2:13 夜中に谷の門を出て、竜の泉の前から糞の門へと巡って、エルサレムの城壁を調べた。城壁は破壊され、城門は焼け落ちていた。 2:14 更に泉の門から王の池へと行ったが、わたしの乗っている動物が通る所もないほどであった。 2:15 夜のうちに谷に沿って上りながら城壁を調べ、再び谷の門を通って帰った。 2:16 役人たちは、わたしがどこに行き、何をしたか知らなかった。それまでわたしは、ユダの人々にも、祭司にも、貴族にも、役人にも、工事に携わる他の人々にも、何も知らせてはいなかった。 2:17 やがてわたしは彼らに言った。「御覧のとおり、わたしたちは不幸の中であえいでいる。エルサレムは荒廃し、城門は焼け落ちたままだ。エルサレムの城壁を建て直そうではないか。そうすれば、もう恥ずかしいことはない。」 2:18 神の御手が恵み深くわたしを守り、王がわたしに言ってくれた言葉を彼らに告げると、彼らは「早速、建築に取りかかろう」と応じ、この良い企てに奮い立った。 2:19 ところが、ホロニ人サンバラト、アンモン人の僕トビヤ、アラブ人ゲシェムは、それを聞いてわたしたちを嘲笑い、さげすみ、こう言った。「お前たちは何をしようとしているのか。王に反逆しようとしているのか。」 2:20 そこでわたしは反論した。「天にいます神御自ら、わたしたちにこの工事を成功させてくださる。その僕であるわたしたちは立ち上がって町を再建する。あなたたちには、エルサレムの中に領分もなければ、それに対する権利も記録もない。」
[ 2 ] 2:1 And it came to pass in the month of Nisan, in the twentieth year of King Artaxerxes, when wine was before him, that I took the wine and gave it to the king. Now I had never been sad in his presence before. 2:2 Therefore the king said to me, "Why is your face sad, since you are not sick? This is nothing but sorrow of heart." So I became dreadfully afraid, 2:3 and said to the king, "May the king live forever! Why should my face not be sad, when the city, the place of my fathers' tombs, lies waste, and its gates are burned with fire?" 2:4 Then the king said to me, "What do you request?" So I prayed to the God of heaven. 2:5 And I said to the king, "If it pleases the king, and if your servant has found favor in your sight, I ask that you send me to Judah, to the city of my fathers' tombs, that I may rebuild it." 2:6 Then the king said to me (the queen also sitting beside him), "How long will your journey be? And when will you return?" So it pleased the king to send me; and I set him a time. 2:7 Furthermore I said to the king, "If it pleases the king, let letters be given to me for the governors of the region beyond the River, that they must permit me to pass through till I come to Judah, 2:8 "and a letter to Asaph the keeper of the king's forest, that he must give me timber to make beams for the gates of the citadel which pertains to the temple, for the city wall, and for the house that I will occupy." And the king granted them to me according to the good hand of my God upon me. 2:9 Then I went to the governors in the region beyond the River, and gave them the king's letters. Now the king had sent captains of the army and horsemen with me. 2:10 When Sanballat the Horonite and Tobiah the Ammonite official heard of it, they were deeply disturbed that a man had come to seek the well-being of the children of Israel. 2:11 So I came to Jerusalem and was there three days. 2:12 Then I arose in the night, I and a few men with me; I told no one what my God had put in my heart to do at Jerusalem; nor was there any animal with me, except the one on which I rode. 2:13 And I went out by night through the Valley Gate to the Serpent Well and the Refuse Gate, and viewed the walls of Jerusalem which were broken down and its gates which were burned with fire. 2:14 Then I went on to the Fountain Gate and to the King's Pool, but there was no room for the animal under me to pass. 2:15 So I went up in the night by the valley, and viewed the wall; then I turned back and entered by the Valley Gate, and so returned. 2:16 And the officials did not know where I had gone or what I had done; I had not yet told the Jews, the priests, the nobles, the officials, or the others who did the work. 2:17 Then I said to them, "You see the distress that we are in, how Jerusalem lies waste, and its gates are burned with fire. Come and let us build the wall of Jerusalem, that we may no longer be a reproach." 2:18 And I told them of the hand of my God which had been good upon me, and also of the king's words that he had spoken to me. So they said, "Let us rise up and build." Then they set their hands to this good work. 2:19 But when Sanballat the Horonite, Tobiah the Ammonite official, and Geshem the Arab heard of it, they laughed at us and despised us, and said, "What is this thing that you are doing? Will you rebel against the king?" 2:20 So I answered them, and said to them, "The God of heaven Himself will prosper us; therefore we His servants will arise and build, but you have no heritage or right or memorial in Jerusalem."
5:27 彼らが使徒たちを引いて来て最高法院の中に立たせると、大祭司が尋問した。 5:28 「あの名によって教えてはならないと、厳しく命じておいたではないか。それなのに、お前たちはエルサレム中に自分の教えを広め、あの男の血を流した責任を我々に負わせようとしている。」 5:29 ペトロとほかの使徒たちは答えた。「人間に従うよりも、神に従わなくてはなりません。 5:30 わたしたちの先祖の神は、あなたがたが木につけて殺したイエスを復活させられました。 5:31 神はイスラエルを悔い改めさせ、その罪を赦すために、この方を導き手とし、救い主として、御自分の右に上げられました。 5:32 わたしたちはこの事実の証人であり、また、神が御自分に従う人々にお与えになった聖霊も、このことを証ししておられます。」 5:33 これを聞いた者たちは激しく怒り、使徒たちを殺そうと考えた。 5:34 ところが、民衆全体から尊敬されている律法の教師で、ファリサイ派に属するガマリエルという人が、議場に立って、使徒たちをしばらく外に出すように命じ、 5:35 それから、議員たちにこう言った。「イスラエルの人たち、あの者たちの取り扱いは慎重にしなさい。 5:36 以前にもテウダが、自分を何か偉い者のように言って立ち上がり、その数四百人くらいの男が彼に従ったことがあった。彼は殺され、従っていた者は皆散らされて、跡形もなくなった。 5:37 その後、住民登録の時、ガリラヤのユダが立ち上がり、民衆を率いて反乱を起こしたが、彼も滅び、つき従った者も皆、ちりぢりにさせられた。 5:38 そこで今、申し上げたい。あの者たちから手を引きなさい。ほうっておくがよい。あの計画や行動が人間から出たものなら、自滅するだろうし、 5:39 神から出たものであれば、彼らを滅ぼすことはできない。もしかしたら、諸君は神に逆らう者となるかもしれないのだ。」一同はこの意見に従い、 5:40 使徒たちを呼び入れて鞭で打ち、イエスの名によって話してはならないと命じたうえ、釈放した。 5:41 それで使徒たちは、イエスの名のために辱めを受けるほどの者にされたことを喜び、最高法院から出て行き、 5:42 毎日、神殿の境内や家々で絶えず教え、メシア・イエスについて福音を告げ知らせていた。
5:27 And when they had brought them, they set them before the council. And the high priest asked them, 5:28 saying, "Did we not strictly command you not to teach in this name? And look, you have filled Jerusalem with your doctrine, and intend to bring this Man's blood on us!" 5:29 But Peter and the other apostles answered and said: "We ought to obey God rather than men. 5:30 "The God of our fathers raised up Jesus whom you murdered by hanging on a tree. 5:31 "Him God has exalted to His right hand to be Prince and Savior, to give repentance to Israel and forgiveness of sins. 5:32 "And we are His witnesses to these things, and so also is the Holy Spirit whom God has given to those who obey Him." 5:33 When they heard this, they were furious and plotted to kill them. 5:34 Then one in the council stood up, a Pharisee named Gamaliel, a teacher of the law held in respect by all the people, and commanded them to put the apostles outside for a little while. 5:35 And he said to them: "Men of Israel, take heed to yourselves what you intend to do regarding these men. 5:36 "For some time ago Theudas rose up, claiming to be somebody. A number of men, about four hundred, joined him. He was slain, and all who obeyed him were scattered and came to nothing. 5:37 "After this man, Judas of Galilee rose up in the days of the census, and drew away many people after him. He also perished, and all who obeyed him were dispersed. 5:38 "And now I say to you, keep away from these men and let them alone; for if this plan or this work is of men, it will come to nothing; 5:39 "but if it is of God, you cannot overthrow it-lest you even be found to fight against God." 5:40 And they agreed with him, and when they had called for the apostles and beaten them, they commanded that they should not speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go. 5:41 So they departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for His name. 5:42 And daily in the temple, and in every house, they did not cease teaching and preaching Jesus as the Christ.
