6:1 サンバラト、トビヤ、アラブ人ゲシェム、その他わたしたちの敵は、わたしが城壁を再建し、崩れた所が一つとして残らず、あとは城門に扉を付けるだけだということを耳にした。 6:2 サンバラトとゲシェムはわたしのもとに使者をよこして、「オノの谷にあるケフィリムで会おう」と言った。彼らはわたしに危害を加えようとたくらんだのであった。 6:3 そこでわたしは使者を送って言わせた。「わたしは大きな工事をしているので、行けません。中断して出かけたのでは、どうして工事が終わるでしょうか。」 6:4 彼らは同じことを四度も言ってきたが、わたしも同じように返事を繰り返した。 6:5 五度目にサンバラトは、配下の者を同じ言葉をもってわたしのもとによこしたが、その手には開封の手紙があった。 6:6 そこには、こう書かれていた。「あなたとユダの人々は反逆を企てていると、諸国のうわさにもなっているし、ガシュムも言っている。城壁を建てているのはそのためであろう。あなたはユダの人々の王になろうとしているということだ。 6:7 また、あなたはあなたのことを宣言する預言者をエルサレムに立てて、ユダの王だと言わせているそうだ。今このうわさは、王のもとに届こうとしている。早速相談しようではないか。」 6:8 そこでわたしは返事を送った。「あなたの言うことは事実に反する。あなたの勝手な作り事だ。」 6:9 彼らは皆、わたしたちの手が弱り、工事は完成しないだろうと言って、わたしたちに恐怖を与えている。神よ、今こそわたしの手を強くしてください。 6:10 わたしが、メヘタブエルの孫でデラヤの子であるシェマヤの家に行くと、彼は閉じこもっていた。彼は言った。「神殿で会おう、聖所の中で。聖所の扉を閉じよう。あなたを殺しに来る者がある。夜、あなたを殺しにやって来る。」 6:11 しかし、わたしは言った。「わたしの立場にある者は逃げることはできない。わたしのような者で、聖所に入って、なお生き長らえることのできる者があろうか。わたしは入らない。」 6:12 彼は神が遣わした者ではなく、トビヤとサンバラトに買収されてわたしに預言したのだということをわたしは悟った。 6:13 なぜ彼を買収したのか。それはわたしが恐怖心から彼らの言いなりになって罪を犯せば、彼らはそれを利用してわたしの悪口を言い、わたしを辱めることができるからである。 6:14 わが神よ、トビヤとサンバラトのこの仕業と、わたしを脅迫した女預言者ノアドヤや他の預言者たちを覚えていてください。 6:15 城壁は五十二日かかって、エルルの月の二十五日に完成した。 6:16 わたしたちのすべての敵がそれを聞くに及んで、わたしたちの周囲にいる諸国の民も皆、恐れを抱き、自らの目に大いに面目を失った。わたしたちの神の助けによってこの工事がなされたのだということを悟ったからである。 6:17 そのころ、ユダの貴族は頻繁にトビヤに手紙を送り、トビヤの手紙も彼らに届いていた。 6:18 ユダの多くの人は彼と互いに誓約を交わす関係にあったからで、トビヤはアラの子シェカンヤの娘婿であり、トビヤの子ヨハナンはベレクヤの子メシュラムの娘をめとっていた。 6:19 彼らはわたしの前ではトビヤへの賛辞を述べ、トビヤにはわたしの言葉を密告した。トビヤはわたしに脅迫の手紙をよこした。
6:1 Now it happened when Sanballat, Tobiah, Geshem the Arab, and the rest of our enemies heard that I had rebuilt the wall, and that there were no breaks left in it (though at that time I had not hung the doors in the gates), 6:2 that Sanballat and Geshem sent to me, saying, "Come, let us meet together among the villages in the plain of Ono." But they thought to do me harm. 6:3 So I sent messengers to them, saying, "I am doing a great work, so that I cannot come down. Why should the work cease while I leave it and go down to you?" 6:4 But they sent me this message four times, and I answered them in the same manner. 6:5 Then Sanballat sent his servant to me as before, the fifth time, with an open letter in his hand. 6:6 In it was written: It is reported among the nations, and Geshem says, that you and the Jews plan to rebel; therefore, according to these rumors, you are rebuilding the wall, that you may be their king. 6:7 And you have also appointed prophets to proclaim concerning you at Jerusalem, saying, 'There is a king in Judah!' Now these matters will be reported to the king. So come, therefore, and let us consult together. 6:8 Then I sent to him, saying, "No such things as you say are being done, but you invent them in your own heart." 6:9 For they all were trying to make us afraid, saying, "Their hands will be weakened in the work, and it will not be done." Now therefore, O God, strengthen my hands. 6:10 Afterward I came to the house of Shemaiah the son of Delaiah, the son of Mehetabel, who was a secret informer; and he said, "Let us meet together in the house of God, within the temple, and let us close the doors of the temple, for they are coming to kill you; indeed, at night they will come to kill you." 6:11 And I said, "Should such a man as I flee? And who is there such as I who would go into the temple to save his life? I will not go in!" 6:12 Then I perceived that God had not sent him at all, but that he pronounced this prophecy against me because Tobiah and Sanballat had hired him. 6:13 For this reason he was hired, that I should be afraid and act that way and sin, so that they might have cause for an evil report, that they might reproach me. 6:14 My God, remember Tobiah and Sanballat, according to these their works, and the prophetess Noadiah and the rest of the prophets who would have made me afraid. 6:15 So the wall was finished on the twenty-fifth day of Elul, in fifty-two days. 6:16 And it happened, when all our enemies heard of it, and all the nations around us saw these things, that they were very disheartened in their own eyes; for they perceived that this work was done by our God. 6:17 Also in those days the nobles of Judah sent many letters to Tobiah, and the letters of Tobiah came to them. 6:18 For many in Judah were pledged to him, because he was the son-in-law of Shechaniah the son of Arah, and his son Jehohanan had married the daughter of Meshullam the son of Berechiah. 6:19 Also they reported his good deeds before me, and reported my words to him. Tobiah sent letters to frighten me.
7:44 わたしたちの先祖には、荒れ野に証しの幕屋がありました。これは、見たままの形に造るようにとモーセに言われた方のお命じになったとおりのものでした。 7:45 この幕屋は、それを受け継いだ先祖たちが、ヨシュアに導かれ、目の前から神が追い払ってくださった異邦人の土地を占領するとき、運び込んだもので、ダビデの時代までそこにありました。 7:46 ダビデは神の御心に適い、ヤコブの家のために神の住まいが欲しいと願っていましたが、 7:47 神のために家を建てたのはソロモンでした。 7:48 けれども、いと高き方は人の手で造ったようなものにはお住みになりません。これは、預言者も言っているとおりです。 7:49 『主は言われる。「天はわたしの王座、／地はわたしの足台。お前たちは、わたしに／どんな家を建ててくれると言うのか。わたしの憩う場所はどこにあるのか。 7:50 これらはすべて、／わたしの手が造ったものではないか。」』 7:51 かたくなで、心と耳に割礼を受けていない人たち、あなたがたは、いつも聖霊に逆らっています。あなたがたの先祖が逆らったように、あなたがたもそうしているのです。 7:52 いったい、あなたがたの先祖が迫害しなかった預言者が、一人でもいたでしょうか。彼らは、正しい方が来られることを預言した人々を殺しました。そして今や、あなたがたがその方を裏切る者、殺す者となった。 7:53 天使たちを通して律法を受けた者なのに、それを守りませんでした。」
7:54 人々はこれを聞いて激しく怒り、ステファノに向かって歯ぎしりした。 7:55 ステファノは聖霊に満たされ、天を見つめ、神の栄光と神の右に立っておられるイエスとを見て、 7:56 「天が開いて、人の子が神の右に立っておられるのが見える」と言った。 7:57 人々は大声で叫びながら耳を手でふさぎ、ステファノ目がけて一斉に襲いかかり、 7:58 都の外に引きずり出して石を投げ始めた。証人たちは、自分の着ている物をサウロという若者の足もとに置いた。 7:59 人々が石を投げつけている間、ステファノは主に呼びかけて、「主イエスよ、わたしの霊をお受けください」と言った。 7:60 それから、ひざまずいて、「主よ、この罪を彼らに負わせないでください」と大声で叫んだ。ステファノはこう言って、眠りについた。
7:44 "Our fathers had the tabernacle of witness in the wilderness, as He appointed, instructing Moses to make it according to the pattern that he had seen,
7:45 "which our fathers, having received it in turn, also brought with Joshua into the land possessed by the Gentiles, whom God drove out before the face of our fathers until the days of David,
7:46 "who found favor before God and asked to find a dwelling for the God of Jacob.
7:47 "But Solomon built Him a house.
7:48 "However, the Most High does not dwell in temples made with hands, as the prophet says:
7:49 'Heaven is My throne,And earth is My footstool.What house will you build for Me? says the Lord,Or what is the place of My rest?
7:50 Has My hand not made all these things?'
7:51 "You stiffnecked and uncircumcised in heart and ears! You always resist the Holy Spirit; as your fathers did, so do you.
7:52 "Which of the prophets did your fathers not persecute? And they killed those who foretold the coming of the Just One, of whom you now have become the betrayers and murderers,
7:53 "who have received the law by the direction of angels and have not kept it."
7:54 When they heard these things they were cut to the heart, and they gnashed at him with their teeth.
7:55 But he, being full of the Holy Spirit, gazed into heaven and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God,
7:56 and said, "Look! I see the heavens opened and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God!"
7:57 Then they cried out with a loud voice, stopped their ears, and ran at him with one accord;
7:58 and they cast him out of the city and stoned him. And the witnesses laid down their clothes at the feet of a young man named Saul.
7:59 And they stoned Stephen as he was calling on God and saying, "Lord Jesus, receive my spirit."
7:60 Then he knelt down and cried out with a loud voice, "Lord, do not charge them with this sin." And when he had said this, he fell asleep.

8:1 Now Saul was consenting to his death. At that time a great persecution arose against the church which was at Jerusalem;
