8:1 民は皆、水の門の前にある広場に集まって一人の人のようになった。彼らは書記官エズラに主がイスラエルに授けられたモーセの律法の書を持って来るように求めた。 8:2 祭司エズラは律法を会衆の前に持って来た。そこには、男も女も、聞いて理解することのできる年齢に達した者は皆いた。第七の月の一日のことであった。 8:3 彼は水の門の前にある広場に居並ぶ男女、理解することのできる年齢に達した者に向かって、夜明けから正午までそれを読み上げた。民は皆、その律法の書に耳を傾けた。 8:4 書記官エズラは、このために用意された木の壇の上に立ち、その右にマティトヤ、シェマ、アナヤ、ウリヤ、ヒルキヤ、マアセヤが、左にペダヤ、ミシャエル、マルキヤ、ハシュム、ハシュバダナ、ゼカルヤ、メシュラムが立った。 8:5 エズラは人々より高い所にいたので、皆が見守る中でその書を開いた。彼が書を開くと民は皆、立ち上がった。 8:6 エズラが大いなる神、主をたたえると民は皆、両手を挙げて、「アーメン、アーメン」と唱和し、ひざまずき、顔を地に伏せて、主を礼拝した。 8:7 次いで、イエシュア、バニ、シェレブヤ、ヤミン、アクブ、シャベタイ、ホディヤ、マアセヤ、ケリタ、アザルヤ、ヨザバド、ハナン、ペラヤというレビ人がその律法を民に説明したが、その間民は立っていた。 8:8 彼らは神の律法の書を翻訳し、意味を明らかにしながら読み上げたので、人々はその朗読を理解した。 8:9 総督ネヘミヤと、祭司であり書記官であるエズラは、律法の説明に当たったレビ人と共に、民全員に言った。「今日は、あなたたちの神、主にささげられた聖なる日だ。嘆いたり、泣いたりしてはならない。」民は皆、律法の言葉を聞いて泣いていた。 8:10 彼らは更に言った。「行って良い肉を食べ、甘い飲み物を飲みなさい。その備えのない者には、それを分け与えてやりなさい。今日は、我らの主にささげられた聖なる日だ。悲しんではならない。主を喜び祝うことこそ、あなたたちの力の源である。」 8:11 レビ人も民全員を静かにさせた。「静かにしなさい。今日は聖なる日だ。悲しんではならない。」 8:12 民は皆、帰って、食べたり飲んだりし、備えのない者と分かち合い、大いに喜び祝った。教えられたことを理解したからである。
8:13 二日目に、すべての民の家長たちは、祭司、レビ人と共に書記官エズラのもとに集まり、律法の言葉を深く悟ろうとし、 8:14 主がモーセによって授けられたこの律法の中にこう記されているのを見いだした。イスラエルの人々は第七の月の祭りの期間を仮庵で過ごさなければならず、 8:15 これを知らせ、エルサレムとすべての町に次のような布告を出さなければならない。「山に行き、オリーブの枝、野生オリーブの枝、ミルトスの枝、なつめやしの枝、その他の葉の多い木の枝を取って来て、書き記されているとおりに仮庵を作りなさい。」 8:16 民は出て行き、枝を持って来て、各自の家の屋上、庭、神殿の庭、水の門の広場、エフライムの門の広場に仮庵を作った。 8:17 こうして捕囚の地から帰った人々から成る会衆は、皆で仮庵を作り、そこで過ごした。ヌンの子ヨシュアの時代からこの日まで、イスラエルの人々がこのような祝いを行ったことはなかった。それは、まことに大きな喜びの祝いであった。 8:18 最初の日から最後の日まで、毎日彼は神の律法の書を朗読し、彼らは七日間にわたって祭りを行い、八日目には定めに従って終わりの集会を行った。
[ 8 ] 8:1 Now all the people gathered together as one man in the open square that was in front of the Water Gate; and they told Ezra the scribe to bring the Book of the Law of Moses, which the Lord had commanded Israel. 8:2 So Ezra the priest brought the Law before the assembly of men and women and all who could hear with understanding on the first day of the seventh month. 8:3 Then he read from it in the open square that was in front of the Water Gate from morning until midday, before the men and women and those who could understand; and the ears of all the people were attentive to the Book of the Law. 8:4 So Ezra the scribe stood on a platform of wood which they had made for the purpose; and beside him, at his right hand, stood Mattithiah, Shema, Anaiah, Urijah, Hilkiah, and Maaseiah; and at his left hand Pedaiah, Mishael, Malchijah, Hashum, Hashbadana, Zechariah, and Meshullam. 8:5 And Ezra opened the book in the sight of all the people, for he was standing above all the people; and when he opened it, all the people stood up. 8:6 And Ezra blessed the Lord, the great God. Then all the people answered, "Amen, Amen!" while lifting up their hands. And they bowed their heads and worshiped the Lord with their faces to the ground. 8:7 Also Jeshua, Bani, Sherebiah, Jamin, Akkub, Shabbethai, Hodijah, Maaseiah, Kelita, Azariah, Jozabad, Hanan, Pelaiah, and the Levites, helped the people to understand the Law; and the people stood in their place. 8:8 So they read distinctly from the book, in the Law of God; and they gave the sense, and helped them to understand the reading. 8:9 And Nehemiah, who was the governor, Ezra the priest and scribe, and the Levites who taught the people said to all the people, "This day is holy to the Lord your God; do not mourn nor weep." For all the people wept, when they heard the words of the Law. 8:10 Then he said to them, "Go your way, eat the fat, drink the sweet, and send portions to those for whom nothing is prepared; for this day is holy to our Lord. Do not sorrow, for the joy of the Lord is your strength." 8:11 So the Levites quieted all the people, saying, "Be still, for the day is holy; do not be grieved." 8:12 And all the people went their way to eat and drink, to send portions and rejoice greatly, because they understood the words that were declared to them. 8:13 Now on the second day the heads of the fathers' houses of all the people, with the priests and Levites, were gathered to Ezra the scribe, in order to understand the words of the Law. 8:14 And they found written in the Law, which the Lord had commanded by Moses, that the children of Israel should dwell in booths during the feast of the seventh month, 8:15 and that they should announce and proclaim in all their cities and in Jerusalem, saying, "Go out to the mountain, and bring olive branches, branches of oil trees, myrtle branches, palm branches, and branches of leafy trees, to make booths, as it is written." 8:16 Then the people went out and brought them and made themselves booths, each one on the roof of his house, or in their courtyards or the courts of the house of God, and in the open square of the Water Gate and in the open square of the Gate of Ephraim. 8:17 So the whole assembly of those who had returned from the captivity made booths and sat under the booths; for since the days of Joshua the son of Nun until that day the children of Israel had not done so. And there was very great gladness. 8:18 Also day by day, from the first day until the last day, he read from the Book of the Law of God. And they kept the feast seven days; and on the eighth day there was a sacred assembly, according to the prescribed manner.
8:14 エルサレムにいた使徒たちは、サマリアの人々が神の言葉を受け入れたと聞き、ペトロとヨハネをそこへ行かせた。 8:15 二人はサマリアに下って行き、聖霊を受けるようにとその人々のために祈った。 8:16 人々は主イエスの名によって洗礼を受けていただけで、聖霊はまだだれの上にも降っていなかったからである。 8:17 ペトロとヨハネが人々の上に手を置くと、彼らは聖霊を受けた。 8:18 シモンは、使徒たちが手を置くことで、“霊”が与えられるのを見、金を持って来て、 8:19 言った。「わたしが手を置けば、だれでも聖霊が受けられるように、わたしにもその力を授けてください。」 8:20 すると、ペトロは言った。「この金は、お前と一緒に滅びてしまうがよい。神の賜物を金で手に入れられると思っているからだ。 8:21 お前はこのことに何のかかわりもなければ、権利もない。お前の心が神の前に正しくないからだ。 8:22 この悪事を悔い改め、主に祈れ。そのような心の思いでも、赦していただけるかもしれないからだ。 8:23 お前は腹黒い者であり、悪の縄目に縛られていることが、わたしには分かっている。」 8:24 シモンは答えた。「おっしゃったことが何一つわたしの身に起こらないように、主に祈ってください。」 8:25 このように、ペトロとヨハネは、主の言葉を力強く証しして語った後、サマリアの多くの村で福音を告げ知らせて、エルサレムに帰って行った。
8:26 さて、主の天使はフィリポに、「ここをたって南に向かい、エルサレムからガザへ下る道に行け」と言った。そこは寂しい道である。 8:27 フィリポはすぐ出かけて行った。折から、エチオピアの女王カンダケの高官で、女王の全財産の管理をしていたエチオピア人の宦官が、エルサレムに礼拝に来て、 8:28 帰る途中であった。彼は、馬車に乗って預言者イザヤの書を朗読していた。 8:29 すると、“霊”がフィリポに、「追いかけて、あの馬車と一緒に行け」と言った。 8:30 フィリポが走り寄ると、預言者イザヤの書を朗読しているのが聞こえたので、「読んでいることがお分かりになりますか」と言った。 8:31 宦官は、「手引きしてくれる人がなければ、どうして分かりましょう」と言い、馬車に乗ってそばに座るようにフィリポに頼んだ。 8:32 彼が朗読していた聖書の個所はこれである。「彼は、羊のように屠り場に引かれて行った。毛を刈る者の前で黙している小羊のように、／口を開かない。 8:33 卑しめられて、その裁きも行われなかった。だれが、その子孫について語れるだろう。彼の命は地上から取り去られるからだ。」 8:34 宦官はフィリポに言った。「どうぞ教えてください。預言者は、だれについてこう言っているのでしょうか。自分についてですか。だれかほかの人についてですか。」 8:35 そこで、フィリポは口を開き、聖書のこの個所から説きおこして、イエスについて福音を告げ知らせた。 8:36 道を進んで行くうちに、彼らは水のある所に来た。宦官は言った。「ここに水があります。洗礼を受けるのに、何か妨げがあるでしょうか。」 8:37 （†底本に節が欠落 異本訳）フィリポが、「真心から信じておられるなら、差し支えありません」と言うと、宦官は、「イエス・キリストは神の子であると信じます」と答えた。 8:38 そして、車を止めさせた。フィリポと宦官は二人とも水の中に入って行き、フィリポは宦官に洗礼を授けた。 8:39 彼らが水の中から上がると、主の霊がフィリポを連れ去った。宦官はもはやフィリポの姿を見なかったが、喜びにあふれて旅を続けた。 8:40 フィリポはアゾトに姿を現した。そして、すべての町を巡りながら福音を告げ知らせ、カイサリアまで行った。
8:14 Now when the apostles who were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent Peter and John to them, 8:15 who, when they had come down, prayed for them that they might receive the Holy Spirit. 8:16 For as yet He had fallen upon none of them. They had only been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. 8:17 Then they laid hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit. 8:18 And when Simon saw that through the laying on of the apostles' hands the Holy Spirit was given, he offered them money, 8:19 saying, "Give me this power also, that anyone on whom I lay hands may receive the Holy Spirit." 8:20 But Peter said to him, "Your money perish with you, because you thought that the gift of God could be purchased with money! 8:21 "You have neither part nor portion in this matter, for your heart is not right in the sight of God. 8:22 "Repent therefore of this your wickedness, and pray God if perhaps the thought of your heart may be forgiven you. 8:23 "For I see that you are poisoned by bitterness and bound by iniquity." 8:24 Then Simon answered and said, "Pray to the Lord for me, that none of the things which you have spoken may come upon me." 8:25 So when they had testified and preached the word of the Lord, they returned to Jerusalem, preaching the gospel in many villages of the Samaritans. 8:26 Now an angel of the Lord spoke to Philip, saying, "Arise and go toward the south along the road which goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza." This is desert. 8:27 So he arose and went. And behold, a man of Ethiopia, a eunuch of great authority under Candace the queen of the Ethiopians, who had charge of all her treasury, and had come to Jerusalem to worship, 8:28 was returning. And sitting in his chariot, he was reading Isaiah the prophet. 8:29 Then the Spirit said to Philip, "Go near and overtake this chariot." 8:30 So Philip ran to him, and heard him reading the prophet Isaiah, and said, "Do you understand what you are reading?" 8:31 And he said, "How can I, unless someone guides me?" And he asked Philip to come up and sit with him. 8:32 The place in the Scripture which he read was this:"He was led as a sheep to the slaughter;And as a lamb before its shearer is silent,So He opened not His mouth. 8:33 In His humiliation His justice was taken away,And who will declare His generation?For His life is taken from the earth." 8:34 So the eunuch answered Philip and said, "I ask you, of whom does the prophet say this, of himself or of some other man?" 8:35 Then Philip opened his mouth, and beginning at this Scripture, preached Jesus to him. 8:36 Now as they went down the road, they came to some water. And the eunuch said, "See, here is water. What hinders me from being baptized?" 8:37 Then Philip said, "If you believe with all your heart, you may." And he answered and said, "I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God." 8:38 So he commanded the chariot to stand still. And both Philip and the eunuch went down into the water, and he baptized him. 8:39 Now when they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught Philip away, so that the eunuch saw him no more; and he went on his way rejoicing. 8:40 But Philip was found at Azotus. And passing through, he preached in all the cities till he came to Caesarea.
