2:1 その後、怒りの治まったクセルクセス王は、ワシュティとそのふるまい、彼女に下した決定を口にするようになった。 2:2 王に仕える侍従たちは言った。「王のために美しいおとめを探させてはいかがでしょうか。 2:3 全国各州に特使を送り、美しいおとめを一人残らず要塞の町スサの後宮に集め、後宮の監督、宦官ヘガイに託し、容姿を美しくさせるのです。 2:4 御目にかなう娘がいれば、ワシュティに代わる王妃になさってはいかがでしょうか。」これは王の意にかない、王はそうすることにした。
2:5 要塞の町スサに一人のユダヤ人がいた。名をモルデカイといい、キシュ、シムイ、ヤイルと続くベニヤミン族の家系に属していた。 2:6 この人は、バビロン王ネブカドネツァルによって、ユダ王エコンヤと共にエルサレムから連れて来られた捕囚民の中にいた。 2:7 モルデカイは、ハダサに両親がいないので、その後見人となっていた。彼女がエステルで、モルデカイにはいとこに当たる。娘は姿も顔立ちも美しかった。両親を亡くしたので、モルデカイは彼女を自分の娘として引き取っていた。 2:8 さて、王の命令と定めが発布され、大勢の娘が要塞の町スサのヘガイのもとに集められた。エステルも王宮に連れて来られ、後宮の監督ヘガイに託された。 2:9 彼はエステルに好意を抱き、目をかけた。早速化粧品と食べ物を与え、王宮からえり抜きの女官七人を彼女にあてがい、彼女を女官たちと共に後宮で特別扱いした。 2:10 エステルは、モルデカイに命じられていたので、自分が属する民族と親元を明かさなかった。 2:11 モルデカイはエステルの安否を気遣い、どう扱われるのかを知ろうとして、毎日後宮の庭の前を行ったり来たりしていた。 2:12 十二か月の美容の期間が終わると、娘たちは順番にクセルクセス王のもとに召されることになった。娘たちには六か月間ミルラ香油で、次の六か月間ほかの香料や化粧品で容姿を美しくすることが定められていた。 2:13 こうして、どの娘も王のもとに召されたが、後宮から王宮に行くにあたって娘が持って行きたいと望むものは何でも与えられた。 2:14 娘は夜行き、朝帰って別の後宮に連れて行かれ、側室たちの監督、宦官シャアシュガズに託された。王に望まれ、名指しで呼び出されるのでなければ、だれも再び行くことはなかった。 2:15 モルデカイの伯父アビハイルの娘で、モルデカイに娘として引き取られていたエステルにも、王のもとに召される順番が回ってきたが、エステルは後宮の監督、宦官ヘガイの勧めるもの以外に、何も望まなかった。エステルを見る人は皆、彼女を美しいと思った。 2:16 さて、エステルは王宮のクセルクセス王のもとに連れて行かれた。その治世の第七年の第十の月、すなわちテベトの月のことである。 2:17 王はどの女にもましてエステルを愛し、エステルは娘たちの中で王の厚意と愛に最も恵まれることとなった。王は彼女の頭に王妃の冠を置き、ワシュティに代わる王妃とした。 2:18 次いで、王は盛大な酒宴を催して、大臣、家臣をことごとく招いた。これが、「エステルの酒宴」である。更に、王は諸州に対し免税を布告し、王の寛大さを示すにふさわしい祝いの品を与えた。 2:19 再び若い娘が集められた時のことである。モルデカイは王宮の門に座っていた。 2:20 エステルはモルデカイに命じられていたので、自分の属する民族と親元を明かすことをしなかった。モルデカイに養われていたときと同様、その言葉に従っていた。 2:21 さてそのころ、モルデカイが王宮の門に座っていると、王の私室の番人である二人の宦官ビグタンとテレシュが何事かに憤慨し、クセルクセス王を倒そうと謀っていた。 2:22 それを知ったモルデカイは王妃エステルに知らせたので、彼女はモルデカイの名でこれを王に告げた。 2:23 早速この件は捜査されて明らかにされ、二人は木につるされて処刑された。この事件は王の前で宮廷日誌に記入された。
[ 2 ] 2:1 After these things, when the wrath of King Ahasuerus subsided, he remembered Vashti, what she had done, and what had been decreed against her. 2:2 Then the king's servants who attended him said: "Let beautiful young virgins be sought for the king; 2:3 "and let the king appoint officers in all the provinces of his kingdom, that they may gather all the beautiful young virgins to Shushan the citadel, into the women's quarters, under the custody of Hegai the king's eunuch, custodian of the women. And let beauty preparations be given them. 2:4 "Then let the young woman who pleases the king be queen instead of Vashti." This thing pleased the king, and he did so. 2:5 In Shushan the citadel there was a certain Jew whose name was Mordecai the son of Jair, the son of Shimei, the son of Kish, a Benjamite. 2:6 Kish had been carried away from Jerusalem with the captives who had been captured with Jeconiah king of Judah, whom Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon had carried away. 2:7 And Mordecai had brought up Hadassah, that is, Esther, his uncle's daughter, for she had neither father nor mother. The young woman was lovely and beautiful. When her father and mother died, Mordecai took her as his own daughter. 2:8 So it was, when the king's command and decree were heard, and when many young women were gathered at Shushan the citadel, under the custody of Hegai, that Esther also was taken to the king's palace, into the care of Hegai the custodian of the women. 2:9 Now the young woman pleased him, and she obtained his favor; so he readily gave beauty preparations to her, besides her allowance. Then seven choice maidservants were provided for her from the king's palace, and he moved her and her maidservants to the best place in the house of the women. 2:10 Esther had not revealed her people or family, for Mordecai had charged her not to reveal it. 2:11 And every day Mordecai paced in front of the court of the women's quarters, to learn of Esther's welfare and what was happening to her. 2:12 Each young woman's turn came to go in to King Ahasuerus after she had completed twelve months' preparation, according to the regulations for the women, for thus were the days of their preparation apportioned: six months with oil of myrrh, and six months with perfumes and preparations for beautifying women. 2:13 Thus prepared, each young woman went to the king, and she was given whatever she desired to take with her from the women's quarters to the king's palace. 2:14 In the evening she went, and in the morning she returned to the second house of the women, to the custody of Shaashgaz, the king's eunuch who kept the concubines. She would not go in to the king again unless the king delighted in her and called for her by name. 2:15 Now when the turn came for Esther the daughter of Abihail the uncle of Mordecai, who had taken her as his daughter, to go in to the king, she requested nothing but what Hegai the king's eunuch, the custodian of the women, advised. And Esther obtained favor in the sight of all who saw her. 2:16 So Esther was taken to King Ahasuerus, into his royal palace, in the tenth month, which is the month of Tebeth, in the seventh year of his reign. 2:17 The king loved Esther more than all the other women, and she obtained grace and favor in his sight more than all the virgins; so he set the royal crown upon her head and made her queen instead of Vashti. 2:18 Then the king made a great feast, the Feast of Esther, for all his officials and servants; and he proclaimed a holiday in the provinces and gave gifts according to the generosity of a king. 2:19 When virgins were gathered together a second time, Mordecai sat within the king's gate. 2:20 Now Esther had not revealed her family and her people, just as Mordecai had charged her, for Esther obeyed the command of Mordecai as when she was brought up by him. 2:21 In those days, while Mordecai sat within the king's gate, two of the king's eunuchs, Bigthan and Teresh, doorkeepers, became furious and sought to lay hands on King Ahasuerus. 2:22 So the matter became known to Mordecai, who told Queen Esther, and Esther informed the king in Mordecai's name. 2:23 And when an inquiry was made into the matter, it was confirmed, and both were hanged on a gallows; and it was written in the book of the chronicles in the presence of the king.
10:34 そこで、ペトロは口を開きこう言った。「神は人を分け隔てなさらないことが、よく分かりました。 10:35 どんな国の人でも、神を畏れて正しいことを行う人は、神に受け入れられるのです。 10:36 神がイエス・キリストによって――この方こそ、すべての人の主です――平和を告げ知らせて、イスラエルの子らに送ってくださった御言葉を、 10:37 あなたがたはご存じでしょう。ヨハネが洗礼を宣べ伝えた後に、ガリラヤから始まってユダヤ全土に起きた出来事です。 10:38 つまり、ナザレのイエスのことです。神は、聖霊と力によってこの方を油注がれた者となさいました。イエスは、方々を巡り歩いて人々を助け、悪魔に苦しめられている人たちをすべていやされたのですが、それは、神が御一緒だったからです。 10:39 わたしたちは、イエスがユダヤ人の住む地方、特にエルサレムでなさったことすべての証人です。人々はイエスを木にかけて殺してしまいましたが、 10:40 神はこのイエスを三日目に復活させ、人々の前に現してくださいました。 10:41 しかし、それは民全体に対してではなく、前もって神に選ばれた証人、つまり、イエスが死者の中から復活した後、御一緒に食事をしたわたしたちに対してです。 10:42 そしてイエスは、御自分が生きている者と死んだ者との審判者として神から定められた者であることを、民に宣べ伝え、力強く証しするようにと、わたしたちにお命じになりました。 10:43 また預言者も皆、イエスについて、この方を信じる者はだれでもその名によって罪の赦しが受けられる、と証ししています。」
10:44 ペトロがこれらのことをなおも話し続けていると、御言葉を聞いている一同の上に聖霊が降った。 10:45 割礼を受けている信者で、ペトロと一緒に来た人は皆、聖霊の賜物が異邦人の上にも注がれるのを見て、大いに驚いた。 10:46 異邦人が異言を話し、また神を賛美しているのを、聞いたからである。そこでペトロは、 10:47 「わたしたちと同様に聖霊を受けたこの人たちが、水で洗礼を受けるのを、いったいだれが妨げることができますか」と言った。 10:48 そして、イエス・キリストの名によって洗礼を受けるようにと、その人たちに命じた。それから、コルネリウスたちは、ペトロになお数日滞在するようにと願った。
10:34 Then Peter opened his mouth and said: "In truth I perceive that God shows no partiality. 10:35 "But in every nation whoever fears Him and works righteousness is accepted by Him. 10:36 "The word which God sent to the children of Israel, preaching peace through Jesus Christ-He is Lord of all- 10:37 "that word you know, which was proclaimed throughout all Judea, and began from Galilee after the baptism which John preached: 10:38 "how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him. 10:39 "And we are witnesses of all things which He did both in the land of the Jews and in Jerusalem, whom they killed by hanging on a tree. 10:40 "Him God raised up on the third day, and showed Him openly, 10:41 "not to all the people, but to witnesses chosen before by God, even to us who ate and drank with Him after He arose from the dead. 10:42 "And He commanded us to preach to the people, and to testify that it is He who was ordained by God to be Judge of the living and the dead. 10:43 "To Him all the prophets witness that, through His name, whoever believes in Him will receive remission of sins." 10:44 While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit fell upon all those who heard the word. 10:45 And those of the circumcision who believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out on the Gentiles also. 10:46 For they heard them speak with tongues and magnify God. Then Peter answered, 10:47 "Can anyone forbid water, that these should not be baptized who have received the Holy Spirit just as we have?" 10:48 And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then they asked him to stay a few days.
