8:1 主なる神はこのようにわたしに示された。見よ、一籠の夏の果物（カイツ）があった。主は言われた。 8:2 「アモスよ、何が見えるか。」わたしは答えた。「一籠の夏の果物です。」主はわたしに言われた。「わが民イスラエルに最後（ケーツ）が来た。もはや、見過ごしにすることはできない。 8:3 その日には、必ず／宮殿の歌い女は泣きわめくと／主なる神は言われる。しかばねはおびただしく／至るところに投げ捨てられる。声を出すな。」
8:4 このことを聞け。貧しい者を踏みつけ／苦しむ農民を押さえつける者たちよ。 8:5 お前たちは言う。「新月祭はいつ終わるのか、穀物を売りたいものだ。安息日はいつ終わるのか、麦を売り尽くしたいものだ。エファ升は小さくし、分銅は重くし、偽りの天秤を使ってごまかそう。 8:6 弱い者を金で、貧しい者を靴一足の値で買い取ろう。また、くず麦を売ろう。」 8:7 主はヤコブの誇りにかけて誓われる。「わたしは、彼らが行ったすべてのことを／いつまでも忘れない。」 8:8 このために、大地は揺れ動かないだろうか。そこに住む者は皆、嘆き悲しまないだろうか。大地はことごとくナイルのように盛り上がり／エジプトの大河のように押し上げられ／また、沈まないだろうか。
8:9 その日が来ると、と主なる神は言われる。わたしは真昼に太陽を沈ませ／白昼に大地を闇とする。 8:10 わたしはお前たちの祭りを悲しみに／喜びの歌をことごとく嘆きの歌に変え／どの腰にも粗布をまとわせ／どの頭の髪の毛もそり落とさせ／独り子を亡くしたような悲しみを与え／その最期を苦悩に満ちた日とする。 8:11 見よ、その日が来ればと／主なる神は言われる。わたしは大地に飢えを送る。それはパンに飢えることでもなく／水に渇くことでもなく／主の言葉を聞くことのできぬ飢えと渇きだ。 8:12 人々は海から海へと巡り／北から東へとよろめき歩いて／主の言葉を探し求めるが／見いだすことはできない。 8:13 その日には、美しいおとめも力強い若者も／渇きのために気を失う。 8:14 サマリアの罪にかけて誓う者ども／「ダンよ、お前の神は生きている。ベエル・シェバよ／お前の愛する者は生きている」と言う者どもは／倒れて再び立ち上がることはない。
8:1 Thus the Lord God showed me: Behold, a basket of summer fruit. 8:2 And He said, "Amos, what do you see?" So I said, "A basket of summer fruit." Then the Lord said to me:"The end has come upon My people Israel;I will not pass by them anymore. 8:3 And the songs of the templeShall be wailing in that day,"Says the Lord God-"Many dead bodies everywhere,They shall be thrown out in silence." 8:4 Hear this, you who swallow up the needy,And make the poor of the land fail, 8:5 Saying:"When will the New Moon be past,That we may sell grain?And the Sabbath,That we may trade wheat?Making the ephah small and the shekel large,Falsifying the scales by deceit, 8:6 That we may buy the poor for silver,And the needy for a pair of sandals-Even sell the bad wheat?" 8:7 The Lord has sworn by the pride of Jacob:"Surely I will never forget any of their works. 8:8 Shall the land not tremble for this,And everyone mourn who dwells in it?All of it shall swell like the River,Heave and subsideLike the River of Egypt. 8:9 "And it shall come to pass in that day," says the Lord God,"That I will make the sun go down at noon,And I will darken the earth in broad daylight; 8:10 I will turn your feasts into mourning,And all your songs into lamentation;I will bring sackcloth on every waist,And baldness on every head;I will make it like mourning for an only son,And its end like a bitter day. 8:11 "Behold, the days are coming," says the Lord God,"That I will send a famine on the land,Not a famine of bread,Nor a thirst for water,But of hearing the words of the Lord. 8:12 They shall wander from sea to sea,And from north to east;They shall run to and fro, seeking the word of the Lord,But shall not find it. 8:13 "In that day the fair virginsAnd strong young menShall faint from thirst. 8:14 Those who swear by the sin of Samaria,Who say,'As your god lives, O Dan!'And, 'As the way of Beersheba lives!'They shall fall and never rise again."

To him who overcomes I will give to eat from the tree of life, which is in the midst of the Paradise of God."
