4:1 ヨナにとって、このことは大いに不満であり、彼は怒った。 4:2 彼は、主に訴えた。「ああ、主よ、わたしがまだ国にいましたとき、言ったとおりではありませんか。だから、わたしは先にタルシシュに向かって逃げたのです。わたしには、こうなることが分かっていました。あなたは、恵みと憐れみの神であり、忍耐深く、慈しみに富み、災いをくだそうとしても思い直される方です。 4:3 主よどうか今、わたしの命を取ってください。生きているよりも死ぬ方がましです。」 4:4 主は言われた。「お前は怒るが、それは正しいことか。」 4:5 そこで、ヨナは都を出て東の方に座り込んだ。そして、そこに小屋を建て、日射しを避けてその中に座り、都に何が起こるかを見届けようとした。 4:6 すると、主なる神は彼の苦痛を救うため、とうごまの木に命じて芽を出させられた。とうごまの木は伸びてヨナよりも丈が高くなり、頭の上に陰をつくったので、ヨナの不満は消え、このとうごまの木を大いに喜んだ。 4:7 ところが翌日の明け方、神は虫に命じて木に登らせ、とうごまの木を食い荒らさせられたので木は枯れてしまった。 4:8 日が昇ると、神は今度は焼けつくような東風に吹きつけるよう命じられた。太陽もヨナの頭上に照りつけたので、ヨナはぐったりとなり、死ぬことを願って言った。「生きているよりも、死ぬ方がましです。」 4:9 神はヨナに言われた。「お前はとうごまの木のことで怒るが、それは正しいことか。」彼は言った。「もちろんです。怒りのあまり死にたいくらいです。」 4:10 すると、主はこう言われた。「お前は、自分で労することも育てることもなく、一夜にして生じ、一夜にして滅びたこのとうごまの木さえ惜しんでいる。 4:11 それならば、どうしてわたしが、この大いなる都ニネベを惜しまずにいられるだろうか。そこには、十二万人以上の右も左もわきまえぬ人間と、無数の家畜がいるのだから。」
4:1 But it displeased Jonah exceedingly, and he became angry. 4:2 So he prayed to the Lord, and said, "Ah, Lord, was not this what I said when I was still in my country? Therefore I fled previously to Tarshish; for I know that You are a gracious and merciful God, slow to anger and abundant in lovingkindness, One who relents from doing harm. 4:3 "Therefore now, O Lord, please take my life from me, for it is better for me to die than to live!" 4:4 Then the Lord said, "Is it right for you to be angry?" 4:5 So Jonah went out of the city and sat on the east side of the city. There he made himself a shelter and sat under it in the shade, till he might see what would become of the city. 4:6 And the Lord God prepared a plant and made it come up over Jonah, that it might be shade for his head to deliver him from his misery. So Jonah was very grateful for the plant. 4:7 But as morning dawned the next day God prepared a worm, and it so damaged the plant that it withered. 4:8 And it happened, when the sun arose, that God prepared a vehement east wind; and the sun beat on Jonah's head, so that he grew faint. Then he wished death for himself, and said, "It is better for me to die than to live." 4:9 Then God said to Jonah, "Is it right for you to be angry about the plant?" And he said, "It is right for me to be angry, even to death!" 4:10 But the Lord said, "You have had pity on the plant for which you have not labored, nor made it grow, which came up in a night and perished in a night. 4:11 "And should I not pity Nineveh, that great city, in which are more than one hundred and twenty thousand persons who cannot discern between their right hand and their left-and much livestock?"
4:1 その後、わたしが見ていると、見よ、開かれた門が天にあった。そして、ラッパが響くようにわたしに語りかけるのが聞こえた、あの最初の声が言った。「ここへ上って来い。この後必ず起こることをあなたに示そう。」 4:2 わたしは、たちまち“霊”に満たされた。すると、見よ、天に玉座が設けられていて、その玉座の上に座っている方がおられた。 4:3 その方は、碧玉や赤めのうのようであり、玉座の周りにはエメラルドのような虹が輝いていた。 4:4 また、玉座の周りに二十四の座があって、それらの座の上には白い衣を着て、頭に金の冠をかぶった二十四人の長老が座っていた。 4:5 玉座からは、稲妻、さまざまな音、雷が起こった。また、玉座の前には、七つのともし火が燃えていた。これは神の七つの霊である。 4:6 また、玉座の前は、水晶に似たガラスの海のようであった。
4:1 After these things I looked, and behold, a door standing open in heaven. And the first voice which I heard was like a trumpet speaking with me, saying, "Come up here, and I will show you things which must take place after this." 4:2 Immediately I was in the Spirit; and behold, a throne set in heaven, and One sat on the throne. 4:3 And He who sat there was like a jasper and a sardius stone in appearance; and there was a rainbow around the throne, in appearance like an emerald. 4:4 Around the throne were twenty-four thrones, and on the thrones I saw twenty-four elders sitting, clothed in white robes; and they had crowns of gold on their heads. 4:5 And from the throne proceeded lightnings, thunderings, and voices. Seven lamps of fire were burning before the throne, which are the seven Spirits of God. 4:6 Before the throne there was a sea of glass, like crystal.
