7:1 Now in the fourth year of King Darius it came to pass that the word of the Lord came to Zechariah, on the fourth day of the ninth month, Chislev, 7:2 when the people sent Sherezer, with Regem-Melech and his men, to the house of God, to pray before the Lord, 7:3 and to ask the priests who were in the house of the Lord of hosts, and the prophets, saying, "Should I weep in the fifth month and fast as I have done for so many years?" 7:4 Then the word of the Lord of hosts came to me, saying, 7:5 "Say to all the people of the land, and to the priests: 'When you fasted and mourned in the fifth and seventh months during those seventy years, did you really fast for Me-for Me? 7:6 'When you eat and when you drink, do you not eat and drink for yourselves? 7:7 'Should you not have obeyed the words which the Lord proclaimed through the former prophets when Jerusalem and the cities around it were inhabited and prosperous, and the South and the Lowland were inhabited?' " 7:8 Then the word of the Lord came to Zechariah, saying, 7:9 "Thus says the Lord of hosts:'Execute true justice,Show mercy and compassionEveryone to his brother. 7:10 Do not oppress the widow or the fatherless,The alien or the poor.Let none of you plan evil in his heartAgainst his brother.' 7:11 "But they refused to heed, shrugged their shoulders, and stopped their ears so that they could not hear. 7:12 "Yes, they made their hearts like flint, refusing to hear the law and the words which the Lord of hosts had sent by His Spirit through the former prophets. Thus great wrath came from the Lord of hosts. 7:13 "Therefore it happened, that just as He proclaimed and they would not hear, so they called out and I would not listen," says the Lord of hosts. 7:14 "But I scattered them with a whirlwind among all the nations which they had not known. Thus the land became desolate after them, so that no one passed through or returned; for they made the pleasant land desolate."

17:6b And when I saw her, I marveled with great amazement. 17:7 But the angel said to me, "Why did you marvel? I will tell you the mystery of the woman and of the beast that carries her, which has the seven heads and the ten horns. 17:8 "The beast that you saw was, and is not, and will ascend out of the bottomless pit and go to perdition. And those who dwell on the earth will marvel, whose names are not written in the Book of Life from the foundation of the world, when they see the beast that was, and is not, and yet is. 17:9 "Here is the mind which has wisdom: The seven heads are seven mountains on which the woman sits. 17:10 "There are also seven kings. Five have fallen, one is, and the other has not yet come. And when he comes, he must continue a short time. 17:11 "And the beast that was, and is not, is himself also the eighth, and is of the seven, and is going to perdition. 17:12 "The ten horns which you saw are ten kings who have received no kingdom as yet, but they receive authority for one hour as kings with the beast. 17:13 "These are of one mind, and they will give their power and authority to the beast. 17:14 "These will make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb will overcome them, for He is Lord of lords and King of kings; and those who are with Him are called, chosen, and faithful." 17:15 Then he said to me, "The waters which you saw, where the harlot sits, are peoples, multitudes, nations, and tongues. 17:16 "And the ten horns which you saw on the beast, these will hate the harlot, make her desolate and naked, eat her flesh and burn her with fire. 17:17 "For God has put it into their hearts to fulfill His purpose, to be of one mind, and to give their kingdom to the beast, until the words of God are fulfilled. 17:18 "And the woman whom you saw is that great city which reigns over the kings of the earth."
