40:1 ヨブに答えて、主は仰せになった。 40:2 全能者と言い争う者よ、引き下がるのか。神を責めたてる者よ、答えるがよい。 40:3 ヨブは主に答えて言った。 40:4 わたしは軽々しくものを申しました。どうしてあなたに反論などできましょう。わたしはこの口に手を置きます。 40:5 ひと言語りましたが、もう主張いたしません。ふた言申しましたが、もう繰り返しません。 40:6 主は嵐の中からヨブに答えて仰せになった。 40:7 男らしく、腰に帯をせよ。お前に尋ねる。わたしに答えてみよ。 40:8 お前はわたしが定めたことを否定し／自分を無罪とするために／わたしを有罪とさえするのか。 40:9 お前は神に劣らぬ腕をもち／神のような声をもって雷鳴をとどろかせるのか。 40:10 威厳と誇りで身を飾り／栄えと輝きで身を装うがよい。 40:11 怒って猛威を振るい／すべて驕り高ぶる者を見れば、これを低くし 40:12 すべて驕り高ぶる者を見れば、これを挫き／神に逆らう者を打ち倒し 40:13 ひとり残らず塵に葬り去り／顔を包んで墓穴に置くがよい。 40:14 そのとき初めて、わたしはお前をたたえよう。お前が自分の右の手で／勝利を得たことになるのだから。 40:15 見よ、ベヘモットを。お前を造ったわたしはこの獣をも造った。これは牛のように草を食べる。 40:16 見よ、腰の力と腹筋の勢いを。 40:17 尾は杉の枝のようにたわみ／腿の筋は固く絡み合っている。 40:18 骨は青銅の管／骨組みは鋼鉄の棒を組み合わせたようだ。 40:19 これこそ神の傑作／造り主をおいて剣をそれに突きつける者はない。 40:20 山々は彼に食べ物を与える。野のすべての獣は彼に戯れる。 40:21 彼がそてつの木の下や／浅瀬の葦の茂みに伏せると 40:22 そてつの影は彼を覆い／川辺の柳は彼を包む。 40:23 川が押し流そうとしても、彼は動じない。ヨルダンが口に流れ込んでも、ひるまない。 40:24 まともに捕えたり／罠にかけてその鼻を貫きうるものがあろうか。 40:25 お前はレビヤタンを鉤にかけて引き上げ／その舌を縄で捕えて／屈服させることができるか。 40:26 お前はその鼻に綱をつけ／顎を貫いてくつわをかけることができるか。 40:27 彼がお前に繰り返し憐れみを乞い／丁重に話したりするだろうか。 40:28 彼がお前と契約を結び／永久にお前の僕となったりするだろうか。 40:29 お前は彼を小鳥のようにもてあそび／娘たちのためにつないでおくことができるか。 40:30 お前の仲間は彼を取り引きにかけ／商人たちに切り売りすることができるか。 40:31 お前はもりで彼の皮を／やすで頭を傷だらけにすることができるか。 40:32 彼の上に手を置いてみよ。戦うなどとは二度と言わぬがよい。
40:1 Moreover the Lord answered Job, and said: 40:2 "Shall the one who contends with the Almighty correct Him?He who rebukes God, let him answer it." 40:3 Then Job answered the Lord and said: 40:4 "Behold, I am vile;What shall I answer You?I lay my hand over my mouth. 40:5 Once I have spoken, but I will not answer;Yes, twice, but I will proceed no further." 40:6 Then the Lord answered Job out of the whirlwind, and said: 40:7 "Now prepare yourself like a man;I will question you, and you shall answer Me: 40:8 "Would you indeed annul My judgment?Would you condemn Me that you may be justified? 40:9 Have you an arm like God?Or can you thunder with a voice like His? 40:10 Then adorn yourself with majesty and splendor,and array yourself with glory and beauty. 40:11 Disperse the rage of your wrath;Look on everyone who is proud, and humble him. 40:12 Look on everyone who is proud, and bring him low;Tread down the wicked in their place. 40:13 Hide them in the dust together,Bind their faces in hidden darkness. 40:14 Then I will also confess to youThat your own right hand can save you. 40:15 "Look now at the behemoth, which I made along with you;He eats grass like an ox. 40:16 See now, his strength is in his hips,And his power is in his stomach muscles. 40:17 He moves his tail like a cedar;The sinews of his thighs are tightly knit. 40:18 His bones are like beams of bronze,His ribs like bars of iron. 40:19 He is the first of the ways of God;Only He who made him can bring near His sword. 40:20 Surely the mountains yield food for him,And all the beasts of the field play there. 40:21 He lies under the lotus trees,In a covert of reeds and marsh. 40:22 The lotus trees cover him with their shade;The willows by the brook surround him. 40:23 Indeed the river may rage,Yet he is not disturbed;He is confident, though the Jordan gushes into his mouth, 40:24 Though he takes it in his eyes,Or one pierces his nose with a snare.

4:13 For the promise that he would be the heir of the world was not to Abraham or to his seed through the law, but through the righteousness of faith. 4:14 For if those who are of the law are heirs, faith is made void and the promise made of no effect, 4:15 because the law brings about wrath; for where there is no law there is no transgression. 4:16 Therefore it is of faith that it might be according to grace, so that the promise might be sure to all the seed, not only to those who are of the law, but also to those who are of the faith of Abraham, who is the father of us all 4:17 (as it is written, "I have made you a father of many nations") in the presence of Him whom he believed-God, who gives life to the dead and calls those things which do not exist as though they did; 4:18 who, contrary to hope, in hope believed, so that he became the father of many nations, according to what was spoken, "So shall your descendants be." 4:19 And not being weak in faith, he did not consider his own body, already dead (since he was about a hundred years old), and the deadness of Sarah's womb. 4:20 He did not waver at the promise of God through unbelief, but was strengthened in faith, giving glory to God, 4:21 and being fully convinced that what He had promised He was also able to perform. 4:22 And therefore "it was accounted to him for righteousness." 4:23 Now it was not written for his sake alone that it was imputed to him, 4:24 but also for us. It shall be imputed to us who believe in Him who raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead, 4:25 who was delivered up because of our offenses, and was raised because of our justification.
