17:1 乾いたパンの一片しかなくとも平安があれば／いけにえの肉で家を満たして争うよりよい。 17:2 成功をもたらす僕は恥をもたらす息子を支配し／その兄弟と共に嗣業の分配にあずかる。 17:3 銀にはるつぼ、金には炉、心を試すのは主。 17:4 悪事をはたらく者は悪の唇に耳を傾け／偽る者は滅亡の舌に耳を向ける。 17:5 貧しい人を嘲る者は造り主をみくびる者。災いのときに喜ぶ者は赦されない。 17:6 孫は老人の冠、子らは父の輝き。 17:7 高尚な唇は神を知らぬ者にふさわしくない。うそをつく唇は高貴な者に一層ふさわしくない。 17:8 賄賂は贈り主にとって美しい宝石。贈ればどこであろうと成功する。 17:9 愛を求める人は罪を覆う。前言を翻す者は友情を裂く。 17:10 理解力ある人を一度叱責する方が／愚か者を百度打つよりも効き目がある。 17:11 悪人は逆らうことのみ求める。彼には仮借ない使者が送られるであろう。 17:12 子を奪われた熊に遭う方が／愚か者の無知に会うよりましだ。 17:13 悪をもって善に報いるなら／家から災難は絶えない。 17:14 いさかいの始めは水の漏り始め。裁判沙汰にならぬうちにやめておくがよい。 17:15 悪い者を正しいとすることも／正しい人を悪いとすることも／ともに、主のいとわれることである。 17:16 愚か者が代金を手にしているのは何のためか。知恵を買おうにも、心がないではないか。 17:17 どのようなときにも、友を愛すれば／苦難のときの兄弟が生まれる。 17:18 意志の弱い者は手を打って誓い／その友のために証人となる。 17:19 罪を愛する者は争いを愛する。戸口を高く開く者は破れを招く。 17:20 心の曲がった者は幸いを受けない。舌をもって欺く者は災難に陥る。 17:21 愚か者を生めば悲しみがあり／神を知らない者の父に喜びはない。 17:22 喜びを抱く心はからだを養うが／霊が沈みこんでいると骨まで枯れる。 17:23 神に逆らう者は人のふところから賄賂を取り／裁きの道を曲げる。 17:24 分別のある人は顔を知恵に向け／愚か者は目を地の果てに向ける。 17:25 愚かな息子は父の悩みとなり／産んだ母の苦しみとなる。 17:26 神に従う人に罰を科したり／高貴な人をその正しさのゆえに打つのは／いずれも良いことではない。 17:27 口数を制する人は知識をわきまえた人。冷静な人には英知がある。 17:28 無知な者も黙っていれば知恵があると思われ／唇を閉じれば聡明だと思われる。

13:1 人は皆、上に立つ権威に従うべきです。神に由来しない権威はなく、今ある権威はすべて神によって立てられたものだからです。 13:2 従って、権威に逆らう者は、神の定めに背くことになり、背く者は自分の身に裁きを招くでしょう。 13:3 実際、支配者は、善を行う者にはそうではないが、悪を行う者には恐ろしい存在です。あなたは権威者を恐れないことを願っている。それなら、善を行いなさい。そうすれば、権威者からほめられるでしょう。 13:4 権威者は、あなたに善を行わせるために、神に仕える者なのです。しかし、もし悪を行えば、恐れなければなりません。権威者はいたずらに剣を帯びているのではなく、神に仕える者として、悪を行う者に怒りをもって報いるのです。 13:5 だから、怒りを逃れるためだけでなく、良心のためにも、これに従うべきです。 13:6 あなたがたが貢を納めているのもそのためです。権威者は神に仕える者であり、そのことに励んでいるのです。 13:7 すべての人々に対して自分の義務を果たしなさい。貢を納めるべき人には貢を納め、税を納めるべき人には税を納め、恐るべき人は恐れ、敬うべき人は敬いなさい。
13:8 互いに愛し合うことのほかは、だれに対しても借りがあってはなりません。人を愛する者は、律法を全うしているのです。 13:9 「姦淫するな、殺すな、盗むな、むさぼるな」、そのほかどんな掟があっても、「隣人を自分のように愛しなさい」という言葉に要約されます。 13:10 愛は隣人に悪を行いません。だから、愛は律法を全うするものです。
13:11 更に、あなたがたは今がどんな時であるかを知っています。あなたがたが眠りから覚めるべき時が既に来ています。今や、わたしたちが信仰に入ったころよりも、救いは近づいているからです。 13:12 夜は更け、日は近づいた。だから、闇の行いを脱ぎ捨てて光の武具を身に着けましょう。 13:13 日中を歩むように、品位をもって歩もうではありませんか。酒宴と酩酊、淫乱と好色、争いとねたみを捨て、 13:14 主イエス・キリストを身にまといなさい。欲望を満足させようとして、肉に心を用いてはなりません。
13:1 Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God. 13:2 Therefore whoever resists the authority resists the ordinance of God, and those who resist will bring judgment on themselves. 13:3 For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to evil. Do you want to be unafraid of the authority? Do what is good, and you will have praise from the same. 13:4 For he is God's minister to you for good. But if you do evil, be afraid; for he does not bear the sword in vain; for he is God's minister, an avenger to execute wrath on him who practices evil. 13:5 Therefore you must be subject, not only because of wrath but also for conscience' sake. 13:6 For because of this you also pay taxes, for they are God's ministers attending continually to this very thing. 13:7 Render therefore to all their due: taxes to whom taxes are due, customs to whom customs, fear to whom fear, honor to whom honor. 13:8 Owe no one anything except to love one another, for he who loves another has fulfilled the law. 13:9 For the commandments, "You shall not commit adultery," "You shall not murder," "You shall not steal," "You shall not bear false witness," "You shall not covet," and if there is any other commandment, are all summed up in this saying, namely, "You shall love your neighbor as yourself." 13:10 Love does no harm to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfillment of the law. 13:11 And do this, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep; for now our salvation is nearer than when we first believed. 13:12 The night is far spent, the day is at hand. Therefore let us cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armor of light. 13:13 Let us walk properly, as in the day, not in revelry and drunkenness, not in lewdness and lust, not in strife and envy. 13:14 But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill its lusts.
