4:1 Then I returned and considered all the oppression that is done under the sun:And look! The tears of the oppressed,But they have no comforter-On the side of their oppressors there is power,But they have no comforter. 4:2 Therefore I praised the dead who were already dead,More than the living who are still alive. 4:3 Yet, better than both is he who has never existed,Who has not seen the evil work that is done under the sun. 4:4 Again, I saw that for all toil and every skillful work a man is envied by his neighbor. This also is vanity and grasping for the wind. 4:5 The fool folds his handsAnd consumes his own flesh. 4:6 Better a handful with quietnessThan both hands full, together with toil and grasping for the wind. 4:7 Then I returned, and I saw vanity under the sun: 4:8 There is one alone, without companion:He has neither son nor brother.Yet there is no end to all his labors,Nor is his eye satisfied with riches. But he never asks,"For whom do I toil and deprive myself of good?"This also is vanity and a grave misfortune. 4:9 Two are better than one,Because they have a good reward for their labor. 4:10 For if they fall, one will lift up his companion. But woe to him who is alone when he falls,For he has no one to help him up. 4:11 Again, if two lie down together, they will keep warm; But how can one be warm alone? 4:12 Though one may be overpowered by another, two can withstand him.And a threefold cord is not quickly broken. 4:13 Better a poor and wise youthThan an old and foolish king who will be admonished no more. 4:14 For he comes out of prison to be king,Although he was born poor in his kingdom. 4:15 I saw all the living who walk under the sun; They were with the second youth who stands in his place. 4:16 There was no end of all the people over whom he was made king;Yet those who come afterward will not rejoice in him.Surely this also is vanity and grasping for the wind.

7:1 Now concerning the things of which you wrote to me: It is good for a man not to touch a woman. 7:2 Nevertheless, because of sexual immorality, let each man have his own wife, and let each woman have her own husband. 7:3 Let the husband render to his wife the affection due her, and likewise also the wife to her husband. 7:4 The wife does not have authority over her own body, but the husband does. And likewise the husband does not have authority over his own body, but the wife does. 7:5 Do not deprive one another except with consent for a time, that you may give yourselves to fasting and prayer; and come together again so that Satan does not tempt you because of your lack of self-control. 7:6 But I say this as a concession, not as a commandment. 7:7 For I wish that all men were even as I myself. But each one has his own gift from God, one in this manner and another in that. 7:8 But I say to the unmarried and to the widows: It is good for them if they remain even as I am; 7:9 but if they cannot exercise self-control, let them marry. For it is better to marry than to burn with passion. 7:10 Now to the married I command, yet not I but the Lord: A wife is not to depart from her husband. 7:11 But even if she does depart, let her remain unmarried or be reconciled to her husband. And a husband is not to divorce his wife. 7:12 But to the rest I, not the Lord, say: If any brother has a wife who does not believe, and she is willing to live with him, let him not divorce her. 7:13 And a woman who has a husband who does not believe, if he is willing to live with her, let her not divorce him. 7:14 For the unbelieving husband is sanctified by the wife, and the unbelieving wife is sanctified by the husband; otherwise your children would be unclean, but now they are holy. 7:15 But if the unbeliever departs, let him depart; a brother or a sister is not under bondage in such cases. But God has called us to peace. 7:16 For how do you know, O wife, whether you will save your husband? Or how do you know, O husband, whether you will save your wife?
