36:1 ヒゼキヤ王の治世第十四年に、アッシリアの王センナケリブが攻め上り、ユダの砦の町をことごとく占領した。 36:2 アッシリアの王は、ラキシュからラブ・シャケを大軍と共にヒゼキヤ王のいるエルサレムに遣わした。彼は布さらしの野に至る大通りに沿って上の貯水池から来る水路の傍らに立ち止まった。 36:3 ヒルキヤの子である宮廷長エルヤキム、書記官シェブナ、アサフの子である補佐官ヨアが彼の前に出て行った。 36:4 そこで、ラブ・シャケは彼らに言った。「ヒゼキヤに伝えよ。大王、アッシリアの王はこう言われる。なぜこんな頼りないものに頼っているのか。 36:5 ただ舌先だけの言葉が戦略であり、戦力であるのかとわたしは言う。今お前は誰を頼みにしてわたしに刃向かうのか。 36:6 今お前はエジプトというあの折れかけの葦の杖を頼みにしているが、それはだれでも寄りかかる者の手を刺し貫くだけだ。エジプトの王ファラオは、自分を頼みとするすべての者にとってそのようになる。 36:7 お前は、『我々は我々の神、主に依り頼む』と言っているが、ヒゼキヤはユダとエルサレムに向かい、『この祭壇の前で礼拝せよ』と言って、その主の聖なる高台と祭壇を取り除いたのではなかったか。 36:8 今わが主君、アッシリアの王とかけをせよ。もしお前の方でそれだけの乗り手を準備できるなら、こちらから二千頭の馬を与えよう。 36:9 戦車について、騎兵についてエジプトなどを頼みにしているお前に、どうしてわが主君の家臣のうちの最も小さい総督の一人すら追い返すことができようか。 36:10 わたしは今、主とかかわりなくこの地を滅ぼしに来たのだろうか。主がわたしに、『この地に向かって攻め上り、これを滅ぼせ』とお命じになったのだ。」 36:11 エルヤキムとシェブナとヨアは、ラブ・シャケに願った。「僕どもはアラム語が分かります。どうぞアラム語でお話しください。城壁の上にいる民が聞いているところで、わたしどもにユダの言葉で話さないでください。」 36:12 だがラブ・シャケは言った。「わが主君がこれらのことを告げるためにわたしを遣わしたのは、お前の主君やお前のためだけだとでもいうのか。城壁の上に座っている者たちのためにも遣わしたのではないか。彼らもお前たちと共に自分の糞尿を飲み食いするようになるのだから。」 36:13 ラブ・シャケは立ってユダの言葉で大声で呼ばわり、こう言い放った。「大王、アッシリアの王の言葉を聞け。 36:14 王はこう言われる。『ヒゼキヤにだまされるな。彼はお前たちを救い出すことはできない。 36:15 ヒゼキヤは、お前たちに、主が必ず我々を救い出してくださる。決してこの都がアッシリアの王の手に渡されることはない、と言って主に依り頼ませようとするが、そうさせてはならない。』 36:16 ヒゼキヤの言うことを聞くな。アッシリアの王がこう言われるからだ。『わたしと和を結び、降伏せよ。そうすればお前たちは皆、自分のぶどうといちじくの実を食べ、自分の井戸の水を飲むことができる。 36:17 やがてわたしは来て、お前たちをお前たちの地と同じような地、穀物と新しいぶどう酒の地、パンとぶどう畑の地に連れて行く』と。 36:18 ヒゼキヤが、『主は我々を救い出してくださる』と言っても、惑わされるな。諸国の神々は、それぞれ自分の地をアッシリア王の手から救い出すことができたであろうか。 36:19 ハマトやアルパドの神々はどこに行ったのか。セファルワイムの神々はどこに行ったのか。サマリアをわたしの手から救い出した神があっただろうか。 36:20 これらの国々のすべての神々のうち、どの神が自分の国をわたしの手から救い出したか。それでも主はエルサレムをわたしの手から救い出すと言うのか。」 36:21 しかし彼らは、答えてはならないと王に戒められていたので、押し黙ってひと言も答えなかった。 36:22 ヒルキヤの子である宮廷長エルヤキム、書記官シェブナ、アサフの子である補佐官ヨアは衣を裂き、ヒゼキヤのもとに来てラブ・シャケの言葉を伝えた。
36:1 Now it came to pass in the fourteenth year of King Hezekiah that Sennacherib king of Assyria came up against all the fortified cities of Judah and took them. 36:2 Then the king of Assyria sent the Rabshakeh with a great army from Lachish to King Hezekiah at Jerusalem. And he stood by the aqueduct from the upper pool, on the highway to the Fuller's Field. 36:3 And Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, who was over the household, Shebna the scribe, and Joah the son of Asaph, the recorder, came out to him. 36:4 Then the Rabshakeh said to them, "Say now to Hezekiah, 'Thus says the great king, the king of Assyria: "What confidence is this in which you trust? 36:5 "I say you speak of having plans and power for war; but they are mere words. Now in whom do you trust, that you rebel against me? 36:6 "Look! You are trusting in the staff of this broken reed, Egypt, on which if a man leans, it will go into his hand and pierce it. So is Pharaoh king of Egypt to all who trust in him. 36:7 "But if you say to me, 'We trust in the Lord our God,' is it not He whose high places and whose altars Hezekiah has taken away, and said to Judah and Jerusalem, 'You shall worship before this altar'?" ' 36:8 "Now therefore, I urge you, give a pledge to my master the king of Assyria, and I will give you two thousand horses-if you are able on your part to put riders on them! 36:9 "How then will you repel one captain of the least of my master's servants, and put your trust in Egypt for chariots and horsemen? 36:10 "Have I now come up without the Lord against this land to destroy it? The Lord said to me, 'Go up against this land, and destroy it.' " 36:11 Then Eliakim, Shebna, and Joah said to the Rabshakeh, "Please speak to your servants in the Aramaic language, for we understand it; and do not speak to us in Hebrew in the hearing of the people who are on the wall." 36:12 But the Rabshakeh said, "Has my master sent me to your master and to you to speak these words, and not to the men who sit on the wall, who will eat and drink their own waste with you?" 36:13 Then the Rabshakeh stood and called out with a loud voice in Hebrew, and said, "Hear the words of the great king, the king of Assyria! 36:14 "Thus says the king: 'Do not let Hezekiah deceive you, for he will not be able to deliver you; 36:15 'nor let Hezekiah make you trust in the Lord, saying, "The Lord will surely deliver us; this city will not be given into the hand of the king of Assyria." ' 36:16 "Do not listen to Hezekiah; for thus says the king of Assyria: 'Make peace with me by a present and come out to me; and every one of you eat from his own vine and every one from his own fig tree, and every one of you drink the waters of his own cistern; 36:17 'until I come and take you away to a land like your own land, a land of grain and new wine, a land of bread and vineyards. 36:18 'Beware lest Hezekiah persuade you, saying, "The Lord will deliver us." Has any one of the gods of the nations delivered its land from the hand of the king of Assyria? 36:19 'Where are the gods of Hamath and Arpad? Where are the gods of Sepharvaim? Indeed, have they delivered Samaria from my hand? 36:20 'Who among all the gods of these lands have delivered their countries from my hand, that the Lord should deliver Jerusalem from my hand?' " 36:21 But they held their peace and answered him not a word; for the king's commandment was, "Do not answer him." 36:22 Then Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, who was over the household, Shebna the scribe, and Joah the son of Asaph, the recorder, came to Hezekiah with their clothes torn, and told him the words of the Rabshakeh.
2:11 さて、ケファがアンティオキアに来たとき、非難すべきところがあったので、わたしは面と向かって反対しました。 2:12 なぜなら、ケファは、ヤコブのもとからある人々が来るまでは、異邦人と一緒に食事をしていたのに、彼らがやって来ると、割礼を受けている者たちを恐れてしり込みし、身を引こうとしだしたからです。 2:13 そして、ほかのユダヤ人も、ケファと一緒にこのような心にもないことを行い、バルナバさえも彼らの見せかけの行いに引きずり込まれてしまいました。 2:14 しかし、わたしは、彼らが福音の真理にのっとってまっすぐ歩いていないのを見たとき、皆の前でケファに向かってこう言いました。「あなたはユダヤ人でありながら、ユダヤ人らしい生き方をしないで、異邦人のように生活しているのに、どうして異邦人にユダヤ人のように生活することを強要するのですか。」
2:15 わたしたちは生まれながらのユダヤ人であって、異邦人のような罪人ではありません。 2:16 けれども、人は律法の実行ではなく、ただイエス・キリストへの信仰によって義とされると知って、わたしたちもキリスト・イエスを信じました。これは、律法の実行ではなく、キリストへの信仰によって義としていただくためでした。なぜなら、律法の実行によっては、だれ一人として義とされないからです。 2:17 もしわたしたちが、キリストによって義とされるように努めながら、自分自身も罪人であるなら、キリストは罪に仕える者ということになるのでしょうか。決してそうではない。 2:18 もし自分で打ち壊したものを再び建てるとすれば、わたしは自分が違犯者であると証明することになります。 2:19 わたしは神に対して生きるために、律法に対しては律法によって死んだのです。わたしは、キリストと共に十字架につけられています。 2:20 生きているのは、もはやわたしではありません。キリストがわたしの内に生きておられるのです。わたしが今、肉において生きているのは、わたしを愛し、わたしのために身を献げられた神の子に対する信仰によるものです。 2:21 わたしは、神の恵みを無にはしません。もし、人が律法のお陰で義とされるとすれば、それこそ、キリストの死は無意味になってしまいます。
2:11 Now when Peter had come to Antioch, I withstood him to his face, because he was to be blamed; 2:12 for before certain men came from James, he would eat with the Gentiles; but when they came, he withdrew and separated himself, fearing those who were of the circumcision. 2:13 And the rest of the Jews also played the hypocrite with him, so that even Barnabas was carried away with their hypocrisy. 2:14 But when I saw that they were not straightforward about the truth of the gospel, I said to Peter before them all, "If you, being a Jew, live in the manner of Gentiles and not as the Jews, why do you compel Gentiles to live as Jews? 2:15 "We who are Jews by nature, and not sinners of the Gentiles, 2:16 "knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law but by faith in Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Christ Jesus, that we might be justified by faith in Christ and not by the works of the law; for by the works of the law no flesh shall be justified. 2:17 "But if, while we seek to be justified by Christ, we ourselves also are found sinners, is Christ therefore a minister of sin? Certainly not! 2:18 "For if I build again those things which I destroyed, I make myself a transgressor. 2:19 "For I through the law died to the law that I might live to God. 2:20 "I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me. 2:21 "I do not set aside the grace of God; for if righteousness comes through the law, then Christ died in vain."
