21:1 The word which came to Jeremiah from the Lord when King Zedekiah sent to him Pashhur the son of Melchiah, and Zephaniah the son of Maaseiah, the priest, saying, 21:2 "Please inquire of the Lord for us, for Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon makes war against us. Perhaps the Lord will deal with us according to all His wonderful works, that the king may go away from us." 21:3 Then Jeremiah said to them, "Thus you shall say to Zedekiah, 21:4 'Thus says the Lord God of Israel: "Behold, I will turn back the weapons of war that are in your hands, with which you fight against the king of Babylon and the Chaldeans who besiege you outside the walls; and I will assemble them in the midst of this city. 21:5 "I Myself will fight against you with an outstretched hand and with a strong arm, even in anger and fury and great wrath. 21:6 "I will strike the inhabitants of this city, both man and beast; they shall die of a great pestilence. 21:7 "And afterward," says the Lord, "I will deliver Zedekiah king of Judah, his servants and the people, and such as are left in this city from the pestilence and the sword and the famine, into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, into the hand of their enemies, and into the hand of those who seek their life; and he shall strike them with the edge of the sword. He shall not spare them, or have pity or mercy." ' 21:8 "Now you shall say to this people, 'Thus says the Lord: "Behold, I set before you the way of life and the way of death. 21:9 "He who remains in this city shall die by the sword, by famine, and by pestilence; but he who goes out and defects to the Chaldeans who besiege you, he shall live, and his life shall be as a prize to him. 21:10 "For I have set My face against this city for adversity and not for good," says the Lord. "It shall be given into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall burn it with fire." ' 21:11 "And concerning the house of the king of Judah, say, 'Hear the word of the Lord, 21:12 'O house of David! Thus says the Lord:"Execute judgment in the morning;And deliver him who is plunderedOut of the hand of the oppressor,Lest My fury go forth like fireAnd burn so that no one can quench it,Because of the evil of your doings. 21:13 "Behold, I am against you, O inhabitant of the valley,And rock of the plain," says the Lord,"Who say, 'Who shall come down against us?Or who shall enter our dwellings?' 21:14 But I will punish you according to the fruit of your doings," says the Lord;"I will kindle a fire in its forest,And it shall devour all things around it." ' "

2:1 Now, brethren, concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our gathering together to Him, we ask you, 2:2 not to be soon shaken in mind or troubled, either by spirit or by word or by letter, as if from us, as though the day of Christ had come. 2:3 Let no one deceive you by any means; for that Day will not come unless the falling away comes first, and the man of sin is revealed, the son of perdition, 2:4 who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God or that is worshiped, so that he sits as God in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God. 2:5 Do you not remember that when I was still with you I told you these things? 2:6 And now you know what is restraining, that he may be revealed in his own time. 2:7 For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only He who now restrains will do so until He is taken out of the way. 2:8 And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord will consume with the breath of His mouth and destroy with the brightness of His coming. 2:9 The coming of the lawless one is according to the working of Satan, with all power, signs, and lying wonders, 2:10 and with all unrighteous deception among those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved. 2:11 And for this reason God will send them strong delusion, that they should believe the lie, 2:12 that they all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness. 2:13 But we are bound to give thanks to God always for you, brethren beloved by the Lord, because God from the beginning chose you for salvation through sanctification by the Spirit and belief in the truth, 2:14 to which He called you by our gospel, for the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ. 2:15 Therefore, brethren, stand fast and hold the traditions which you were taught, whether by word or our epistle. 2:16 Now may our Lord Jesus Christ Himself, and our God and Father, who has loved us and given us everlasting consolation and good hope by grace, 2:17 comfort your hearts and establish you in every good word and work.
