18:1 ヨシャファトは大いなる富と栄光に恵まれるとともに、アハブとも姻戚関係を結んだ。 18:2 数年たって、彼がサマリアにアハブを訪ねると、アハブは多くの羊と牛を屠って、彼とその一行をもてなし、ラモト・ギレアドに攻め上ろうと誘った。 18:3 イスラエルの王アハブはユダの王ヨシャファトに、「わたしと一緒にラモト・ギレアドに行っていただけませんか」と言った。彼は答えた。「戦うときには、わたしはあなたと一体、わたしの民はあなたの民と一体です。」 18:4 しかし同時にヨシャファトはイスラエルの王に、「まず主の言葉を求めてください」と言った。 18:5 イスラエルの王は、四百人の預言者を召集し、「我々はラモト・ギレアドに行って戦いを挑むべきか、それともわたしは控えるべきか」と問うた。彼らは、「攻め上ってください。神は、王の手にこれをお渡しになります」と答えた。 18:6 しかし、ヨシャファトが、「ここには、このほかに我々が尋ねることのできる主の預言者はいないのですか」と問うと、 18:7 イスラエルの王はヨシャファトに答えた。「もう一人、主の御旨を尋ねることのできる者がいます。しかし、彼はわたしに幸運を預言することがなく、いつも災いばかり預言するので、わたしは彼を憎んでいます。イムラの子ミカヤという者です。」ヨシャファトは、「王よ、そのように言ってはなりません」といさめた。 18:8 そこでイスラエルの王は一人の宦官を呼び、「イムラの子ミカヤを急いで連れて来るように」と言った。 18:9 イスラエルの王はユダの王ヨシャファトと共に、サマリアの城門の入り口にある麦打ち場でそれぞれ正装して王座に着いていた。預言者たちは皆、その前に出て預言していた。 18:10 ケナアナの子ツィドキヤが数本の鉄の角を作って、「主はこう言われる。これをもってアラムを突き、殲滅せよ」と言うと、 18:11 他の預言者たちも皆同様に預言して、「ラモト・ギレアドに攻め上って勝利を得てください。主は敵を王の手にお渡しになります」と言った。 18:12 ミカヤを呼びに行った使いの者は、ミカヤにこう言い含めた。「いいですか。預言者たちは口をそろえて、王に幸運を告げています。どうかあなたも、彼らと同じように語り、幸運を告げてください。」 18:13 ミカヤは、「主は生きておられる。わたしの神が言われる事をわたしは告げる」と言って、 18:14 王のもとに来た。王が、「ミカヤよ、我々はラモト・ギレアドに行って戦いを挑むべきか、それともわたしは控えるべきか、どちらだ」と問うと、彼は、「攻め上って勝利を勝ち取ってください。敵はあなたたちの手に渡されます」と答えた。 18:15 そこで王が彼に、「何度誓わせたら、お前は主の名によって真実だけをわたしに告げるようになるのか」と言うと、 18:16 彼は答えた。「イスラエル人が皆、羊飼いのいない羊のように山々に散っているのをわたしは見ました。主は、『彼らには主人がいない。彼らをそれぞれ自分の家に無事に帰らせよ』と言われました。」 18:17 イスラエルの王はヨシャファトに言った。「あなたに言ったとおりではありませんか。彼はわたしに幸運ではなく、災いばかり預言するのです。」 18:18 だが、ミカヤは続けた。「主の言葉をよく聞きなさい。わたしは主が御座に座し、天の万軍がその左右に立っているのを見ました。 18:19 主が、『イスラエルの王アハブを唆し、ラモト・ギレアドに攻め上らせて倒れさせるのは誰か』と言われると、あれこれと答える者がいましたが、 18:20 ある霊が進み出て主の御前に立ち、『わたしが彼を唆します』と申し出ました。主が、『どのようにそうするのか』とただされると、 18:21 その霊は、『わたしは行って、彼のすべての預言者たちの口を通して偽りを言う霊となります』と答えました。主は、『あなたは彼を唆して、必ず目的を達することができるにちがいない。行って、そのとおりにせよ』と言われました。 18:22 今御覧のとおり、主がこのあなたの預言者たちの口に偽りを言う霊を置かれました。主はあなたに災いを告げておられるのです。」 18:23 ケナアナの子ツィドキヤがミカヤに近づいて頬をなぐり、「主の霊はどのようにわたしを離れ去って、お前に語ったというのか」と言った。 18:24 「あなたが身を隠そうと部屋から部屋へと移る日にそれが分かる」とミカヤは答えた。 18:25 イスラエルの王は命じた。「ミカヤを捕らえ、町の長アモンと王子ヨアシュのもとに引いて行って、 18:26 言え。『王はこう言われる。この男を獄につなぎ、わたしが無事に帰るまで、わずかな食べ物とわずかな飲み物しか与えるな。』」 18:27 ミカヤは王に、「もしあなたが無事に帰って来ることができるなら、主はわたしを通して語られなかったはずです」と言い、「すべての民よ、あなたたちも聞いておくがよい」と言った。 18:28 イスラエルの王は、ユダの王ヨシャファトと共にラモト・ギレアドに攻め上った。 18:29 イスラエルの王はヨシャファトに、「わたしは変装して戦いに行きますが、あなたは御自分の服を着ていてください」と言い、イスラエルの王は変装し、彼らは戦いに行った。 18:30 アラムの王は配下の戦車隊の長たちに、「兵士や将軍には目もくれず、ただイスラエルの王をねらって戦え」と命じていた。 18:31 戦車隊の長たちはヨシャファトを見たとき、「これこそイスラエルの王にちがいない」と言い、彼を包囲して攻めかかろうとした。ヨシャファトが助けを求めて叫んだので、主は彼を助けられた。すなわち神は彼らをヨシャファトから引き離された。 18:32 戦車隊の長たちは、彼がイスラエルの王ではないと知り、追うのをやめて引き返した。 18:33 ところが一人の兵が何気なく弓を引き、イスラエルの王の鎧の胸当てと草摺りの間を射貫いた。王は御者に言った。「手綱を返して敵陣から脱出させてくれ。傷を負ってしまった。」 18:34 その日、戦いがますます激しくなったため、イスラエルの王はアラム軍を前にして夕方まで戦車の中に立っていたが、日の沈むころ息絶えた。
18:1 Jehoshaphat had riches and honor in abundance; and by marriage he allied himself with Ahab. 18:2 After some years he went down to visit Ahab in Samaria; and Ahab killed sheep and oxen in abundance for him and the people who were with him, and persuaded him to go up with him to Ramoth Gilead. 18:3 So Ahab king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat king of Judah, "Will you go with me against Ramoth Gilead?" And he answered him, "I am as you are, and my people as your people; we will be with you in the war." 18:4 And Jehoshaphat said to the king of Israel, "Please inquire for the word of the Lord today." 18:5 Then the king of Israel gathered the prophets together, four hundred men, and said to them, "Shall we go to war against Ramoth Gilead, or shall I refrain?" And they said, "Go up, for God will deliver it into the king's hand." 18:6 But Jehoshaphat said, "Is there not still a prophet of the Lord here, that we may inquire of Him?" 18:7 So the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, "There is still one man by whom we may inquire of the Lord; but I hate him, because he never prophesies good concerning me, but always evil. He is Micaiah the son of Imla." And Jehoshaphat said, "Let not the king say such things!" 18:8 Then the king of Israel called one of his officers and said, "Bring Micaiah the son of Imla quickly!" 18:9 The king of Israel and Jehoshaphat king of Judah, clothed in their robes, sat each on his throne; and they sat at a threshing floor at the entrance of the gate of Samaria; and all the prophets prophesied before them. 18:10 Now Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah had made horns of iron for himself; and he said, "Thus says the Lord: 'With these you shall gore the Syrians until they are destroyed.' " 18:11 And all the prophets prophesied so, saying, "Go up to Ramoth Gilead and prosper, for the Lord will deliver it into the king's hand." 18:12 Then the messenger who had gone to call Micaiah spoke to him, saying, "Now listen, the words of the prophets with one accord encourage the king. Therefore please let your word be like the word of one of them, and speak encouragement." 18:13 And Micaiah said, "As the Lord lives, whatever my God says, that I will speak." 18:14 Then he came to the king; and the king said to him, "Micaiah, shall we go to war against Ramoth Gilead, or shall I refrain?" And he said, "Go and prosper, and they shall be delivered into your hand!" 18:15 So the king said to him, "How many times shall I make you swear that you tell me nothing but the truth in the name of the Lord?" 18:16 Then he said, "I saw all Israel scattered on the mountains, as sheep that have no shepherd. And the Lord said, 'These have no master. Let each return to his house in peace.' " 18:17 And the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, "Did I not tell you he would not prophesy good concerning me, but evil?" 18:18 Then Micaiah said, "Therefore hear the word of the Lord: I saw the Lord sitting on His throne, and all the host of heaven standing on His right hand and His left. 18:19 "And the Lord said, 'Who will persuade Ahab king of Israel to go up, that he may fall at Ramoth Gilead?' So one spoke in this manner, and another spoke in that manner. 18:20 "Then a spirit came forward and stood before the Lord, and said, 'I will persuade him.' The Lord said to him, 'In what way?' 18:21 "So he said, 'I will go out and be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets.' And the Lord said, 'You shall persuade him and also prevail; go out and do so.' 18:22 "Therefore look! The Lord has put a lying spirit in the mouth of these prophets of yours, and the Lord has declared disaster against you." 18:23 Then Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah went near and struck Micaiah on the cheek, and said, "Which way did the spirit from the Lord go from me to speak to you?" 18:24 And Micaiah said, "Indeed you shall see on that day when you go into an inner chamber to hide!" 18:25 Then the king of Israel said, "Take Micaiah, and return him to Amon the governor of the city and to Joash the king's son; 18:26 "and say, 'Thus says the king: "Put this fellow in prison, and feed him with bread of affliction and water of affliction until I return in peace." ' " 18:27 Then Micaiah said, "If you ever return in peace, the Lord has not spoken by me." And he said, "Take heed, all you people!" 18:28 So the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat the king of Judah went up to Ramoth Gilead. 18:29 And the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, "I will disguise myself and go into battle; but you put on your robes." So the king of Israel disguised himself, and they went into battle. 18:30 Now the king of Syria had commanded the captains of the chariots who were with him, saying, "Fight with no one small or great, but only with the king of Israel." 18:31 So it was, when the captains of the chariots saw Jehoshaphat, that they said, "It is the king of Israel!" Therefore they surrounded him to attack; but Jehoshaphat cried out, and the Lord helped him, and God diverted them from him. 18:32 For so it was, when the captains of the chariots saw that it was not the king of Israel, that they turned back from pursuing him. 18:33 Now a certain man drew a bow at random, and struck the king of Israel between the joints of his armor. So he said to the driver of his chariot, "Turn around and take me out of the battle, for I am wounded." 18:34 The battle increased that day, and the king of Israel propped himself up in his chariot facing the Syrians until evening; and about the time of sunset he died.
