22:1 エルサレムの住民は、ヨラムの最年少の子アハズヤを彼の代わりに王とした。アラブ人と共に陣営に攻め込んできた部隊によって年上のすべての王子が殺されてしまったからである。こうして、ユダの王ヨラムの子アハズヤが王となった。 22:2 アハズヤは四十二歳で王となり、一年間エルサレムで王位にあった。その母は名をアタルヤといい、オムリの孫娘であった。 22:3 この母が悪い勧めを与えたので、彼もアハブの家の道を歩んだ。 22:4 彼はアハブの家と同じように主の目に悪とされることを行った。父の死後、アハブの家の者が顧問となって彼を滅びに至らせたのである。 22:5 アハズヤは彼らの勧めによって、イスラエルの王、アハブの子ヨラムと共にアラムの王ハザエルと戦うため、ラモト・ギレアドに行った。しかし、アラム兵がヨラムに傷を負わせた。 22:6 ヨラム王は、アラムの王ハザエルとのラマにおける戦いで負った傷をいやすため、イズレエルに戻った。ユダの王、ヨラムの子アハズヤは、病床にあるアハブの子ヨラムを見舞うため、イズレエルに下って行った。 22:7 ――アハズヤがヨラムを訪れることによって滅ぶに至ったのは神による。――彼はそこに着くと、ニムシの子イエフのもとにヨラムと共に出かけた。イエフは、アハブの家を絶つために主が油を注がれた者である。 22:8 イエフがアハブの家に裁きを行うとき、彼はアハズヤに仕えるユダの高官とアハズヤの兄弟の子らを見つけて殺した。 22:9 更にアハズヤを捜し求めていたところ、人々はサマリアに潜んでいるアハズヤを捕らえ、イエフのもとに連れて来て、その命を絶った。彼らは、「これは心を尽くして主を求めたヨシャファトの子なのだ」と言って、彼を葬った。こうして、アハズヤの家には国を治めることのできる者はいなくなった。
22:10 アハズヤの母アタルヤは息子の死んだのを見て、直ちにユダの家の王族をすべて滅ぼそうとした。 22:11 しかし、王女ヨシェバがアハズヤの子ヨアシュを抱き、殺されようとしている王子たちの中からひそかに連れ出し、乳母と共に寝具の部屋に入れておいた。祭司ヨヤダの妻であり、アハズヤの妹である、ヨラム王の娘ヨシェバは、ヨアシュをアタルヤからかくまい、彼は殺されずに済んだ。 22:12 こうして、アタルヤが国を支配していた六年の間、ヨアシュは彼らと共に神殿の中に隠れていた。
22:1 Then the inhabitants of Jerusalem made Ahaziah his youngest son king in his place, for the raiders who came with the Arabians into the camp had killed all the older sons. So Ahaziah the son of Jehoram, king of Judah, reigned. 22:2 Ahaziah was forty-two years old when he became king, and he reigned one year in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Athaliah the granddaughter of Omri. 22:3 He also walked in the ways of the house of Ahab, for his mother advised him to do wickedly. 22:4 Therefore he did evil in the sight of the Lord, like the house of Ahab; for they were his counselors after the death of his father, to his destruction. 22:5 He also followed their advice, and went with Jehoram the son of Ahab king of Israel to war against Hazael king of Syria at Ramoth Gilead; and the Syrians wounded Joram. 22:6 Then he returned to Jezreel to recover from the wounds which he had received at Ramah, when he fought against Hazael king of Syria. And Azariah the son of Jehoram, king of Judah, went down to see Jehoram the son of Ahab in Jezreel, because he was sick. 22:7 His going to Joram was God's occasion for Ahaziah's downfall; for when he arrived, he went out with Jehoram against Jehu the son of Nimshi, whom the Lord had anointed to cut off the house of Ahab. 22:8 And it happened, when Jehu was executing judgment on the house of Ahab, and found the princes of Judah and the sons of Ahaziah's brothers who served Ahaziah, that he killed them. 22:9 Then he searched for Ahaziah; and they caught him (he was hiding in Samaria), and brought him to Jehu. When they had killed him, they buried him, "because," they said, "he is the son of Jehoshaphat, who sought the Lord with all his heart." So the house of Ahaziah had no one to assume power over the kingdom. 22:10 Now when Athaliah the mother of Ahaziah saw that her son was dead, she arose and destroyed all the royal heirs of the house of Judah. 22:11 But Jehoshabeath, the daughter of the king, took Joash the son of Ahaziah, and stole him away from among the king's sons who were being murdered, and put him and his nurse in a bedroom. So Jehoshabeath, the daughter of King Jehoram, the wife of Jehoiada the priest (for she was the sister of Ahaziah), hid him from Athaliah so that she did not kill him. 22:12 And he was hidden with them in the house of God for six years, while Athaliah reigned over the land.
