17:1 主の命令により、イスラエルの人々の共同体全体は、シンの荒れ野を出発し、旅程に従って進み、レフィディムに宿営したが、そこには民の飲み水がなかった。 17:2 民がモーセと争い、「我々に飲み水を与えよ」と言うと、モーセは言った。「なぜ、わたしと争うのか。なぜ、主を試すのか。」 17:3 しかし、民は喉が渇いてしかたないので、モーセに向かって不平を述べた。「なぜ、我々をエジプトから導き上ったのか。わたしも子供たちも、家畜までも渇きで殺すためなのか。」 17:4 モーセは主に、「わたしはこの民をどうすればよいのですか。彼らは今にも、わたしを石で打ち殺そうとしています」と叫ぶと、 17:5 主はモーセに言われた。「イスラエルの長老数名を伴い、民の前を進め。また、ナイル川を打った杖を持って行くがよい。 17:6 見よ、わたしはホレブの岩の上であなたの前に立つ。あなたはその岩を打て。そこから水が出て、民は飲むことができる。」モーセは、イスラエルの長老たちの目の前でそのとおりにした。 17:7 彼は、その場所をマサ（試し）とメリバ（争い）と名付けた。イスラエルの人々が、「果たして、主は我々の間におられるのかどうか」と言って、モーセと争い、主を試したからである。

17:1 Then all the congregation of the children of Israel set out on their journey from the Wilderness of Sin, according to the commandment of the Lord, and camped in Rephidim; but there was no water for the people to drink. 17:2 Therefore the people contended with Moses, and said, "Give us water, that we may drink." And Moses said to them, "Why do you contend with me? Why do you tempt the Lord?" 17:3 And the people thirsted there for water, and the people complained against Moses, and said, "Why is it you have brought us up out of Egypt, to kill us and our children and our livestock with thirst?" 17:4 So Moses cried out to the Lord, saying, "What shall I do with this people? They are almost ready to stone me!" 17:5 And the Lord said to Moses, "Go on before the people, and take with you some of the elders of Israel. Also take in your hand your rod with which you struck the river, and go. 17:6 "Behold, I will stand before you there on the rock in Horeb; and you shall strike the rock, and water will come out of it, that the people may drink." And Moses did so in the sight of the elders of Israel. 17:7 So he called the name of the place Massah and Meribah, because of the contention of the children of Israel, and because they tempted the Lord, saying, "Is the Lord among us or not?" 17:8 Now Amalek came and fought with Israel in Rephidim. 17:9 And Moses said to Joshua, "Choose us some men and go out, fight with Amalek. Tomorrow I will stand on the top of the hill with the rod of God in my hand." 17:10 So Joshua did as Moses said to him, and fought with Amalek. And Moses, Aaron, and Hur went up to the top of the hill. 17:11 And so it was, when Moses held up his hand, that Israel prevailed; and when he let down his hand, Amalek prevailed. 17:12 But Moses' hands became heavy; so they took a stone and put it under him, and he sat on it. And Aaron and Hur supported his hands, one on one side, and the other on the other side; and his hands were steady until the going down of the sun. 17:13 So Joshua defeated Amalek and his people with the edge of the sword. 17:14 Then the Lord said to Moses, "Write this for a memorial in the book and recount it in the hearing of Joshua, that I will utterly blot out the remembrance of Amalek from under heaven." 17:15 And Moses built an altar and called its name, The-Lord-Is-My-Banner; 17:16 for he said, "Because the Lord has sworn: the Lord will have war with Amalek from generation to generation."
11:1 イエスは十二人の弟子に指図を与え終わると、そこを去り、方々の町で教え、宣教された。
11:2 ヨハネは牢の中で、キリストのなさったことを聞いた。そこで、自分の弟子たちを送って、 11:3 尋ねさせた。「来るべき方は、あなたでしょうか。それとも、ほかの方を待たなければなりませんか。」 11:4 イエスはお答えになった。「行って、見聞きしていることをヨハネに伝えなさい。 11:5 目の見えない人は見え、足の不自由な人は歩き、重い皮膚病を患っている人は清くなり、耳の聞こえない人は聞こえ、死者は生き返り、貧しい人は福音を告げ知らされている。 11:6 わたしにつまずかない人は幸いである。」 11:7 ヨハネの弟子たちが帰ると、イエスは群衆にヨハネについて話し始められた。「あなたがたは、何を見に荒れ野へ行ったのか。風にそよぐ葦か。 11:8 では、何を見に行ったのか。しなやかな服を着た人か。しなやかな服を着た人なら王宮にいる。 11:9 では、何を見に行ったのか。預言者か。そうだ。言っておく。預言者以上の者である。 11:10 『見よ、わたしはあなたより先に使者を遣わし、／あなたの前に道を準備させよう』／と書いてあるのは、この人のことだ。 11:11 はっきり言っておく。およそ女から生まれた者のうち、洗礼者ヨハネより偉大な者は現れなかった。しかし、天の国で最も小さな者でも、彼よりは偉大である。 11:12 彼が活動し始めたときから今に至るまで、天の国は力ずくで襲われており、激しく襲う者がそれを奪い取ろうとしている。 11:13 すべての預言者と律法が預言したのは、ヨハネの時までである。 11:14 あなたがたが認めようとすれば分かることだが、実は、彼は現れるはずのエリヤである。 11:15 耳のある者は聞きなさい。 11:16 今の時代を何にたとえたらよいか。広場に座って、ほかの者にこう呼びかけている子供たちに似ている。 11:17 『笛を吹いたのに、／踊ってくれなかった。葬式の歌をうたったのに、／悲しんでくれなかった。』 11:18 ヨハネが来て、食べも飲みもしないでいると、『あれは悪霊に取りつかれている』と言い、 11:19 人の子が来て、飲み食いすると、『見ろ、大食漢で大酒飲みだ。徴税人や罪人の仲間だ』と言う。しかし、知恵の正しさは、その働きによって証明される。」
11:1 Now it came to pass, when Jesus finished commanding His twelve disciples, that He departed from there to teach and to preach in their cities. 11:2 And when John had heard in prison about the works of Christ, he sent two of his disciples 11:3 and said to Him, "Are You the Coming One, or do we look for another?" 11:4 Jesus answered and said to them, "Go and tell John the things which you hear and see: 11:5 "The blind see and the lame walk; the lepers are cleansed and the deaf hear; the dead are raised up and the poor have the gospel preached to them. 11:6 "And blessed is he who is not offended because of Me." 11:7 As they departed, Jesus began to say to the multitudes concerning John: "What did you go out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken by the wind? 11:8 "But what did you go out to see? A man clothed in soft garments? Indeed, those who wear soft clothing are in kings' houses. 11:9 "But what did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I say to you, and more than a prophet. 11:10 "For this is he of whom it is written:'Behold, I send My messenger before Your face,Who will prepare Your way before You.' 11:11 "Assuredly, I say to you, among those born of women there has not risen one greater than John the Baptist; but he who is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he. 11:12 "And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffers violence, and the violent take it by force. 11:13 "For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John. 11:14 "And if you are willing to receive it, he is Elijah who is to come. 11:15 "He who has ears to hear, let him hear! 11:16 "But to what shall I liken this generation? It is like children sitting in the marketplaces and calling to their companions, 11:17 "and saying:'We played the flute for you,And you did not dance;We mourned to you,And you did not lament.' 11:18 "For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, 'He has a demon.' 11:19 "The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, 'Look, a glutton and a winebibber, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!' But wisdom is justified by her children."
