11:1 さて、アンモン人のナハシュが攻め上って来て、ギレアドのヤベシュを包囲した。ヤベシュの全住民はナハシュに言った。「我々と契約を結んでください。我々はあなたに仕えます。」 11:2 アンモン人のナハシュは答えた。「お前たちと契約を結ぼう。ただし、お前たち全員の右の目をえぐり出すのが条件だ。それをもって全イスラエルを侮辱しよう。」 11:3 ヤベシュの長老たちは彼に言った。「七日間の猶予をください。イスラエルの全土に使者を立てます。救ってくれる者がいなければ、我々はあなたのもとへ出て行きます。」 11:4 使者はサウルのいるギブアに来て、事の次第を民に報告した。民のだれもが声をあげて泣いた。 11:5 そこへ、サウルが牛を追って畑から戻って来た。彼は尋ねた。「民が泣いているが、何事か起こったのか。」彼らはヤベシュの人々の言葉を伝えた。 11:6 それを聞くうちに神の霊がサウルに激しく降った。彼は怒りに燃えて、 11:7 一軛の牛を捕らえ、それを切り裂き、使者に持たせて、イスラエル全土に送り、次のように言わせた。「サウルとサムエルの後について出陣しない者があれば、その者の牛はこのようにされる。」民は主への恐れにかられ、一丸となって出陣した。 11:8 サウルがベゼクで彼らを点呼すると、イスラエルが三十万、ユダが三万であった。 11:9 彼らはヤベシュから送られて来た使者に言った。「ギレアドのヤベシュの人々にこう言うのだ。『明日、日盛りのころ、あなたがたに救いが来る。』」使者が帰って来てそう知らせると、ヤベシュの人々は喜び祝った。 11:10 ヤベシュの人々は言った。「明日、我々はあなたたちのもとに出て行きます。よいようにしてください。」 11:11 翌日、サウルは民を三つの組に分け、朝の見張りの時刻にアンモン人の陣営に突入し、日盛りのころまで彼らを討った。生き残った者はちりぢりになり、二人一緒に生き残った者はいなかった。 11:12 民はサムエルに言った。「『サウルが我々の王になれようか』と言っていた者はだれであろうと引き渡してください。殺します。」 11:13 しかし、サウルは言った。「今日は、だれも殺してはならない。今日、主がイスラエルにおいて救いの業を行われたのだから。」 11:14 サムエルは民に言った。「さあ、ギルガルに行こう。そこで王国を興そう。」 11:15 民は全員でギルガルに向かい、そこでサウルを王として主の御前に立てた。それから、和解の献げ物を主の御前にささげ、サウルもイスラエルの人々もすべて、大いに喜び祝った。
11:1 Then Nahash the Ammonite came up and encamped against Jabesh Gilead; and all the men of Jabesh said to Nahash, "Make a covenant with us, and we will serve you." 11:2 And Nahash the Ammonite answered them, "On this condition I will make a covenant with you, that I may put out all your right eyes, and bring reproach on all Israel." 11:3 Then the elders of Jabesh said to him, "Hold off for seven days, that we may send messengers to all the territory of Israel. And then, if there is no one to save us, we will come out to you." 11:4 So the messengers came to Gibeah of Saul and told the news in the hearing of the people. And all the people lifted up their voices and wept. 11:5 Now there was Saul, coming behind the herd from the field; and Saul said, "What troubles the people, that they weep?" And they told him the words of the men of Jabesh. 11:6 Then the Spirit of God came upon Saul when he heard this news, and his anger was greatly aroused. 11:7 So he took a yoke of oxen and cut them in pieces, and sent them throughout all the territory of Israel by the hands of messengers, saying, "Whoever does not go out with Saul and Samuel to battle, so it shall be done to his oxen." And the fear of the Lord fell on the people, and they came out with one consent. 11:8 When he numbered them in Bezek, the children of Israel were three hundred thousand, and the men of Judah thirty thousand. 11:9 And they said to the messengers who came, "Thus you shall say to the men of Jabesh Gilead: 'Tomorrow, by the time the sun is hot, you shall have help.' " Then the messengers came and reported it to the men of Jabesh, and they were glad. 11:10 Therefore the men of Jabesh said, "Tomorrow we will come out to you, and you may do with us whatever seems good to you." 11:11 So it was, on the next day, that Saul put the people in three companies; and they came into the midst of the camp in the morning watch, and killed Ammonites until the heat of the day. And it happened that those who survived were scattered, so that no two of them were left together. 11:12 Then the people said to Samuel, "Who is he who said, 'Shall Saul reign over us?' Bring the men, that we may put them to death." 11:13 But Saul said, "Not a man shall be put to death this day, for today the Lord has accomplished salvation in Israel." 11:14 Then Samuel said to the people, "Come, let us go to Gilgal and renew the kingdom there." 11:15 So all the people went to Gilgal, and there they made Saul king before the Lord in Gilgal. There they made sacrifices of peace offerings before the Lord, and there Saul and all the men of Israel rejoiced greatly.

19:28 When He had said this, He went on ahead, going up to Jerusalem. 19:29 And it came to pass, when He came near to Bethphage and Bethany, at the mountain called Olivet, that He sent two of His disciples, 19:30 saying, "Go into the village opposite you, where as you enter you will find a colt tied, on which no one has ever sat. Loose it and bring it here. 19:31 "And if anyone asks you, 'Why are you loosing it?' thus you shall say to him, 'Because the Lord has need of it.' " 19:32 So those who were sent went their way and found it just as He had said to them. 19:33 But as they were loosing the colt, the owners of it said to them, "Why are you loosing the colt?" 19:34 And they said, "The Lord has need of him." 19:35 Then they brought him to Jesus. And they threw their own clothes on the colt, and they set Jesus on him. 19:36 And as He went, many spread their clothes on the road. 19:37 Then, as He was now drawing near the descent of the Mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works they had seen, 19:38 saying:" 'Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord!'Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!" 19:39 And some of the Pharisees called to Him from the crowd, "Teacher, rebuke Your disciples." 19:40 But He answered and said to them, "I tell you that if these should keep silent, the stones would immediately cry out." 19:41 Now as He drew near, He saw the city and wept over it, 19:42 saying, "If you had known, even you, especially in this your day, the things that make for your peace! But now they are hidden from your eyes. 19:43 "For days will come upon you when your enemies will build an embankment around you, surround you and close you in on every side, 19:44 "and level you, and your children within you, to the ground; and they will not leave in you one stone upon another, because you did not know the time of your visitation." 19:45 Then He went into the temple and began to drive out those who bought and sold in it, 19:46 saying to them, "It is written, 'My house is a house of prayer,' but you have made it a 'den of thieves.' " 19:47 And He was teaching daily in the temple. But the chief priests, the scribes, and the leaders of the people sought to destroy Him, 19:48 and were unable to do anything; for all the people were very attentive to hear Him.
