17:1 アヒトフェルはアブサロムに言った。「一万二千の兵をわたしに選ばせてください。今夜のうちに出発してダビデを追跡します。 17:2 疲れて力を失っているところを急襲すれば、彼は恐れ、彼に従っている兵士も全員逃げ出すでしょう。わたしは王一人を討ち取ります。 17:3 兵士全員をあなたのもとに連れ戻します。あなたのねらっておられる人のもとに、かつてすべての者が帰ったように。そうすれば、民全体が平和になります。」 17:4 この言葉はアブサロムにも、イスラエルの長老全員の目にも正しいものと映った。 17:5 アブサロムは、「アルキ人フシャイも呼べ。彼の言うことも聞いてみよう」と言い、 17:6 フシャイがアブサロムのもとに呼び出された。アブサロムは言った。「これこれのことをアヒトフェルは提言したが、そうすべきだと思うか。反対なら、お前も提言してみよ。」 17:7 フシャイはアブサロムに、「今回アヒトフェルが提案したことは良いとは思えません」と言い、 17:8 こう続けた。「父上とその軍がどれほど勇敢かはご存じのとおりです。その上、彼らは子を奪われた野にいる熊のように気が荒くなっています。父上は戦術に秀でた方ですから、兵と共にはお休みにならず、 17:9 今ごろは、洞穴かどこかを見つけて身を隠しておられることでしょう。最初の攻撃に失敗すれば、それを聞いた者は、アブサロムに従う兵士が打ち負かされた、と考え、 17:10 獅子のような心を持つ戦士であっても、弱気になります。父上も彼に従う戦士たちも勇者であることは、全イスラエルがよく知っているからです。 17:11 わたしはこう提案いたします。まず王の下に全イスラエルを集結させることです。ダンからベエル・シェバに至る全国から、海辺の砂のように多くの兵士を集結させ、御自身で率いて戦闘に出られることです。 17:12 隠れ場の一つにいる父上を襲いましょう。露が土に降りるように我々が彼に襲いかかれば、彼に従う兵が多くても、一人も残ることはないでしょう。 17:13 父上がどこかの町に身を寄せるなら、全イスラエルでその町に縄をかけ、引いて行って川にほうり込み、小石一つ残らなくしようではありませんか。」 17:14 アブサロムも、どのイスラエル人も、アルキ人フシャイの提案がアヒトフェルの提案にまさると思った。アヒトフェルの優れた提案が捨てられ、アブサロムに災いがくだることを主が定められたからである。 17:15 フシャイは祭司ツァドクとアビアタルに言った。「アヒトフェルはアブサロムとイスラエルの長老たちにこれこれの提案をしたが、わたしはこれこれの提案をした。 17:16 急いで、使者をダビデに送り、こう告げなさい。荒れ野の渡し場で夜を過ごさず、渡ってしまわなければなりません。王と王に従う兵士が全滅することのないように。」 17:17 ヨナタンとアヒマアツは、都に入って見つかってはならない、とエン・ロゲルにとどまっていた。使いの女が行って二人に知らせ、彼らがダビデ王に伝えに行くことにしたのである。 17:18 ところが一人の若者が彼らを見てアブサロムに知らせたので、彼らは急いで立ち去り、バフリムのある男の家に入った。その家の内庭に井戸があったので二人はその中に降り、 17:19 その家の妻が井戸の上に覆いをかけ、その上に脱穀した麦を広げた。何も気づかれることはなかった。 17:20 アブサロムの部下がその家の妻のところに来て、「アヒマアツとヨナタンはどこにいる」と言った。女が、「ここを通り過ぎて川の方へ行きました」と言うと、彼らは捜しに行き、発見できずにエルサレムへ戻った。 17:21 彼らが去った後、二人は井戸から上って来てダビデ王のもとに行き、こう知らせた。「直ちに川を渡ってください。アヒトフェルはあなたたちを討つためにこういう提案をしました。」 17:22 王は同行していた兵士全員と共に、直ちにヨルダンを渡った。夜明けの光が射すころには、ヨルダンを渡れずに残された者は一人もいなかった。 17:23 アヒトフェルは自分の提案が実行されなかったことを知ると、ろばに鞍を置き、立って家に帰ろうと自分の町に向かった。彼は家の中を整え、首をつって死に、祖先の墓に葬られた。
17:24 ダビデがマハナイムに着いたころ、アブサロムと彼に従うイスラエルの兵は皆、共にヨルダンを渡った。 17:25 アブサロムはヨアブの代わりにアマサを軍の司令官に任命した。アマサはイトラというイスラエル人の子で、イトラの妻はナハシュの娘アビガル、ヨアブの母ツェルヤの姉妹だった。 17:26 イスラエル軍は、アブサロムに従ってギレアドの地に陣を敷いた。 17:27 ダビデがマハナイムに着くと、ラバ出身のアンモン人ナハシュの子ショビ、ロ・デバル出身のアミエルの子マキル、ロゲリム出身のギレアド人バルジライとが、 17:28 寝具、たらい、陶器、小麦、大麦、麦粉、炒り麦、豆、レンズ豆、炒り麦、 17:29 蜂蜜、凝乳、羊、チーズを食糧としてダビデと彼の率いる兵に差し出した。兵士が荒れ野で飢え、疲れ、渇いているにちがいないと思ったからである。
17:1 Moreover Ahithophel said to Absalom, "Now let me choose twelve thousand men, and I will arise and pursue David tonight. 17:2 "I will come upon him while he is weary and weak, and make him afraid. And all the people who are with him will flee, and I will strike only the king. 17:3 "Then I will bring back all the people to you. When all return except the man whom you seek, all the people will be at peace." 17:4 And the saying pleased Absalom and all the elders of Israel. 17:5 Then Absalom said, "Now call Hushai the Archite also, and let us hear what he says too." 17:6 And when Hushai came to Absalom, Absalom spoke to him, saying, "Ahithophel has spoken in this manner. Shall we do as he says? If not, speak up." 17:7 So Hushai said to Absalom: "The advice that Ahithophel has given is not good at this time. 17:8 "For," said Hushai, "you know your father and his men, that they are mighty men, and they are enraged in their minds, like a bear robbed of her cubs in the field; and your father is a man of war, and will not camp with the people. 17:9 "Surely by now he is hidden in some pit, or in some other place. And it will be, when some of them are overthrown at the first, that whoever hears it will say, 'There is a slaughter among the people who follow Absalom.' 17:10 "And even he who is valiant, whose heart is like the heart of a lion, will melt completely. For all Israel knows that your father is a mighty man, and those who are with him are valiant men. 17:11 "Therefore I advise that all Israel be fully gathered to you, from Dan to Beersheba, like the sand that is by the sea for multitude, and that you go to battle in person. 17:12 "So we will come upon him in some place where he may be found, and we will fall on him as the dew falls on the ground. And of him and all the men who are with him there shall not be left so much as one. 17:13 "Moreover, if he has withdrawn into a city, then all Israel shall bring ropes to that city; and we will pull it into the river, until there is not one small stone found there." 17:14 So Absalom and all the men of Israel said, "The advice of Hushai the Archite is better than the advice of Ahithophel." For the Lord had purposed to defeat the good advice of Ahithophel, to the intent that the Lord might bring disaster on Absalom. 17:15 Then Hushai said to Zadok and Abiathar the priests, "Thus and so Ahithophel advised Absalom and the elders of Israel, and thus and so I have advised. 17:16 "Now therefore, send quickly and tell David, saying, 'Do not spend this night in the plains of the wilderness, but speedily cross over, lest the king and all the people who are with him be swallowed up.' " 17:17 Now Jonathan and Ahimaaz stayed at En Rogel, for they dared not be seen coming into the city; so a female servant would come and tell them, and they would go and tell King David. 17:18 Nevertheless a lad saw them, and told Absalom. But both of them went away quickly and came to a man's house in Bahurim, who had a well in his court; and they went down into it. 17:19 Then the woman took and spread a covering over the well's mouth, and spread ground grain on it; and the thing was not known. 17:20 And when Absalom's servants came to the woman at the house, they said, "Where are Ahimaaz and Jonathan?" So the woman said to them, "They have gone over the water brook." And when they had searched and could not find them, they returned to Jerusalem. 17:21 Now it came to pass, after they had departed, that they came up out of the well and went and told King David, and said to David, "Arise and cross over the water quickly. For thus has Ahithophel advised against you." 17:22 So David and all the people who were with him arose and crossed over the Jordan. By morning light not one of them was left who had not gone over the Jordan. 17:23 Now when Ahithophel saw that his advice was not followed, he saddled a donkey, and arose and went home to his house, to his city. Then he put his household in order, and hanged himself, and died; and he was buried in his father's tomb. 17:24 Then David went to Mahanaim. And Absalom crossed over the Jordan, he and all the men of Israel with him. 17:25 And Absalom made Amasa captain of the army instead of Joab. This Amasa was the son of a man whose name was Jithra, an Israelite, who had gone in to Abigail the daughter of Nahash, sister of Zeruiah, Joab's mother. 17:26 So Israel and Absalom encamped in the land of Gilead. 17:27 Now it happened, when David had come to Mahanaim, that Shobi the son of Nahash from Rabbah of the people of Ammon, Machir the son of Ammiel from Lo Debar, and Barzillai the Gileadite from Rogelim, 17:28 brought beds and basins, earthen vessels and wheat, barley and flour, parched grain and beans, lentils and parched seeds, 17:29 honey and curds, sheep and cheese of the herd, for David and the people who were with him to eat. For they said, "The people are hungry and weary and thirsty in the wilderness."

1:35 Again, the next day, John stood with two of his disciples. 1:36 And looking at Jesus as He walked, he said, "Behold the Lamb of God!" 1:37 The two disciples heard him speak, and they followed Jesus. 1:38 Then Jesus turned, and seeing them following, said to them, "What do you seek?" They said to Him, "Rabbi" (which is to say, when translated, Teacher), "where are You staying?" 1:39 He said to them, "Come and see." They came and saw where He was staying, and remained with Him that day (now it was about the tenth hour). 1:40 One of the two who heard John speak, and followed Him, was Andrew, Simon Peter's brother. 1:41 He first found his own brother Simon, and said to him, "We have found the Messiah" (which is translated, the Christ). 1:42 And he brought him to Jesus. Now when Jesus looked at him, He said, "You are Simon the son of Jonah. You shall be called Cephas" (which is translated, A Stone). 1:43 The following day Jesus wanted to go to Galilee, and He found Philip and said to him, "Follow Me." 1:44 Now Philip was from Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter. 1:45 Philip found Nathanael and said to him, "We have found Him of whom Moses in the law, and also the prophets, wrote-Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph." 1:46 And Nathanael said to him, "Can anything good come out of Nazareth?" Philip said to him, "Come and see." 1:47 Jesus saw Nathanael coming toward Him, and said of him, "Behold, an Israelite indeed, in whom is no deceit!" 1:48 Nathanael said to Him, "How do You know me?" Jesus answered and said to him, "Before Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you." 1:49 Nathanael answered and said to Him, "Rabbi, You are the Son of God! You are the King of Israel!" 1:50 Jesus answered and said to him, "Because I said to you, 'I saw you under the fig tree,' do you believe? You will see greater things than these." 1:51 And He said to him, "Most assuredly, I say to you, hereafter you shall see heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of Man."
